The short-lived and much-missed Hero Illustrated was better than Wizard. In my humble opinion, of course.

I have such a nostalgia for Wizard as it was my comics message board before there were comics message boards.
And then the Wizard Message Board was my first real comics message board for a long time before it got shut down.

There have been more good comics published by Image than Ditko's total output.

Image has had a lot of dreck, especially in the 90s, but they’ve put out more great books the last 20 years than Marvel and DC combined.

The two words that matter to me when it comes to 90’s Image:
Astro City

What are you guys doing to my stack of Wizards now? Let Supercat have his blissful 90’s, it’s sounding a little like my parents. “You’re reading comics all wrong! And turn down that horrible noise you call music.” But mom, all the kids are reading Wizard and listening to Cypress Hill… Wizard was to comics what dirt sheets are to professional wrestling The two words that matter to me when it comes to 90’s Image: Astro City I'm kind of partial to The Maxx, probably because I watched the MTV adaptation when I was probably too darned young to understand most of it I also like how fun Wetworks, 1963, and Savage Dragon are

There have been more good comics published by Image than Ditko's total output. That's debatable, and this is coming from someone who is a lukewarm Ditko fan.
On the other hand, if there's guilt to be grafted to the skin of a comic book publisher for the overblown excesses of the 90s, Image would be a top two contender.

At least early on, the writing in Wizard was HILARIOUS. At least to my then-13-years-old sensibilities. I feel like I read most of the good writers left for Toyfare at some point? I don't know. If we can save The Walking Dead and Invincible, you can burn the rest of Image as far as I'm concerned. Except YOUNGBLOOD! You must have read an alternate version to the one I saw.

Amen to both of those, and I'll add 1963 to the list for levity. A purely fun read.

Agree... that's extremely debatable. He was producing comics from WAY WAY back before he was even at Marvel.

I dunno, I'm usually a pretty big Alan Moore fan -- and I love Silver Age Marvel too -- but I found 1963 quite lacklustre. I mean, sure, it was a charming enough homage to old 1960s comics and the Dr. Strange analogy guy in particular was a real highlight (think he was a hip beatnik from Greenwich Village, if memory serves), but overall it just seemed to lack readability or much in the way of any overarching plot. I found it pretty dull and eventually sold my back issues. Of course, the fact that the series was never finished didn't help none.

It was thirty years ago, but even during that period they published Bone, A Distant Soil, Age of Bronze, Astro City, Stray Bullets, Strangers in Paradise, and other worthy comics that would make the world a lesser place if they were shot into the sun.
