It is time to stop killing main characters just for the sake of shock value and short term sales increases. Marvel has already done this needless reboot just so's they can start all of their titles at #1 again in the hopes to spark interest & increase sales, but this only works short term. Why can't they just concentrate on telling good stories?? I really wish Marvel & DC would just do away with ongoing titles altogether & concentrate on mini/maxi-series type story arcs by really good creative teams...and also do away with continuity, let each creative team do their own thing and not worry about what has come before.

Simply put, short term sales are all that matters on a corporate quarterly earning report, and the current audience buying comics only buys ongoings, #1s and continuity series that matter. Good stories are not what sells in the current marketplace, stories that "matter" is the selling point, so every story has to matter or it won't sell. Being good is secondary to that because that is what the wallets of the comic buying audience has been telling the big 2 publishers for a few decades now. As I have said here many times before, comic buyers get the comics their buying habits deserve. -M

NO death in comics should EVER be permanent. Death sticks in real life, I don't want that in my comics.

And, do I think it will be permanent? I do not know. Half of me thinks that it won't be/knows it won't be, but the other half wonders just how much dislike the uppers at Marvel have for Namor since he has been written sooooo poorly by Hickman for the past forever. I'd almost prefer the character be dead than be written so badly like he has been.
To me, each iconic character is rarely written well, or at their glory, for their entire existence as a character. Each one has their time to shine. Namor shined for quite a while, and then writers started taking aspects of his character and turning him to the extreme of those traits. And it ruined him.
So, when history repeats itself anew, and Namor's time comes back around, we can only hope that there will still be a writer at Marvel who remembers the glorious golden age, silver age, and some bronze age Namor stories, and wants to write the character into a proper place in the MU again.

And you all KNEW I would have something to say about this. hahahaha. I'm actually not taking it badly. I'm not even mad. As I said, the character should be dead for a bit if that is the only other option for him not to be written poorly by Hickman, since, you know, Marvel isn't going to do anything else with him anyway right now. I haven't read current Namor in over a year. I got behind on Robinson's Invaders, and I gave up on New Avengers well over a year ago. When that BS with Black Panther and Namor started happening, I stepped away from that garbage.

Part of me wonders if this is an attempt to open the door for a return of Namorita or some other replacement Sub-Mariner type character to play along with Sam as Cap, Jane as Thor and the like.
I do expect Namor to return at some point, maybe when there is a Namor or Defenders film in the works in Phase VI or what have you of the MCU. Essentially, it will be a this too shall pass thing when they need or want the character back again.
But if it sells them some books in the meantime, well good on them I guess. That's what there in business to do, but for the most part I am not really the target audience of big 2 super-hero comics anymore. I sometimes find the circus of the industry more entertaining than the books themselves these days.

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time you dropped a book off that pull list of yours at the bottom of the page? If you did, was it replaced by another book or did you decide to buy fewer comics because you didn't like the quality of the books you were getting? -M

I'll get any book with Superman even if it's current writer is weak (I stuck through Austins Action run..."Repo Man" *shudder*), but that's because I'm a Superman fanboy. Beyond that I get books I like (generally determined by writers). I'm certainly not getting Bizarro or Section 8 because I think they're important books for the DCU continuity.
