I will always be grateful to TLOSH for teaching me that women have no Adam's apple. Otherwise I would never have been able to tell them apart. So thank you, Lightning Lass, for being revealed as impersonating your brother Lightning Lad and being caught because of this. Even all the heroes with X-Eay vision were fooled. Maybe it's just me, but I'm hoping that most of the Legionnaires with X-Ray vision didn't routinely look under their fellow Legionnaires uniforms.

I'm amazed they got any work done..

I ordered the last few issues of Kamandi I need to complete my collection. And I was scrolling around on the dealer's listings to see if I could find anything I want at a good price. And they had Legion of Super-Heroes #263 to #275 as a lot for $14.95. So I got that. And I also got this from another dealer. Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #252. Dream Girl is one of my favorites so I thought this would be a good addition to the Hoosier X Legion collection. Only three dollars.

That's the terribly scary Starburst Bandit killing Legionnaires left and right. I believe he has a headquarters in the Milky Way Twix Fifth Avenue and the Mars Bar where he Snickers at the LSH as he holds them hostage for 100 Grand. My apologies. Sometimes I can't help myself.

Oh, dear. I just read this: And I just wanted to say a few words about the ... very odd story within. I know a little about Tyroc, but mostly from reading comic-book Web sites about his problems as a character. And I remember looking through a Spanish-language issue of LSH #264 (which I read in English for the first time earlier today) but I couldn't really follow the story too much in detail because I didn't know any Spanish as a teenager. So I recently got LSH #263 to #275 (for about a dollar each) and I find myself rather unexpectedly reading about Tyroc because he's in #263 and #264 ... and then #265 tells the origin of his people. Imagine if the Amistad had sailed to a magic Brigadoon island that only appears on Earth for 30 years out of every 200. That's Tyroc's origin. In LSH #265, the island goes to its weird dimension and it takes Shadow Lass and Dawnstar with it, so at least we get to see two of my favorite Legionnaires. And Tyroc tells them the story and they figure out how to send Shady and Dawny back to Earth. But, yeah, this three-issue exposure to Tyroc is very much helping me to understand why he's not a very popular character. Poor Tyroc.

This is Tyroc: I suspect he might have been a more acceptable and less embarrassing character if he dressed in something a little more like this: Discuss.

I'm reading these LSH issues more quickly than I meant to. The run from #263 to #275 starts out kind of bad but it gets better and some of them are pretty good! I especially like the Fatal Five appearance and the origin of Blok. Also, the Dave Hunt inking. But especially the Steve Ditko art! He's done three of the stories I've read (one of them was an eight-page back-up) and they've all been among the best issues of this run. Here's the cover for LSH #272, the issue with Blok's origin and his initiation into the Legion: (Note: Cover not by Ditko.) And here's a page of Ditko art from that issue:

Whatever happened to Jimmy Janes? Was he an actual person? Or a pseudonym? I ask because a year or 2 before this we had Steve Apollo/Jim Starlin do some work here.

I'm pretty sure he was a real guy, not a pseudonym. It seemed that around this time, though, artists didn't want to sign on to draw the Legion long-term, or burned out pretty quickly. Joe Staton said that he was supposed to rotate on the book with (I think it was) Jim Sherman and Mike Nasser, but they both bailed pretty quickly.

Found this This is delightful. "Starfinger! He and his men must have taken out the robot's machinery and are hidden inside them!" "Jeepers! I'm a human firefly and my light must have scared away the burglar"* "Clark! You have wings like...a....a butterfly!" "No wonder you defend them Saturn Girl, you and Lightning Lad have been smooching, too!" "You can't fight crooks with daffodils. NEXT!" "*Moan* That accursed Element Lad transformed my vessel into... candy! Matter-Eater Lad and the others are gobbling it up! Now I'm stranded on this remote planet! - *Groan* - Things couldn't possibly get any worse!" ** * The light comes from her butt. This is very important. ** Line delivered by the Time Trapper, who looks like the traditional, hooded angel of death.
