It all depends. I am a collector and a reader so when I want to get a full run of a title I'm not too overly concerned about the condition. I just want to have it to complete the run. I try to get the books in the best possible condition that I can afford to get them in though. Case In point...in trying to get every issue of Amazing Spiderman most of the books that I have from the 1970's on are in VF or better. The ones from the 1960's I not concerned too much about condition as I just want them. Then there are other books that I collect just to read. As long as the pages are all intact, no tears or water damage then I satisfied.

There are only two conditions; complete and incomplete.

To expand on that, I read, I don't collect so much so as long as I can read it in its entirety I'm good. -M Same with me, with the additional comment that I also like the cover to be intact.... coverless books make me sad.

Make mine "reader's grade."

I think I have commented on a similar topic but here is my philosophy of sorts.
Anything from about 1980 to now, I want higher grade. 7.0 and up. Unless it is a hard to find issue, a want nice looking books from this timeframe.
For older stuff, it is fine to see some wear. I actually like a well worn book that was cared for enough to still look good. Generally, I am not a fan of a lot of book length creases, staining/soiling, rusty staples and any missing pages is a no no for me. But some scuffs and creases, the occasional tape pull and even a name written on the cover or interior bothers me little. I collect but I also read every issue I own. So while I may have a lot of nice slab worthy books, I never will because I always want to be able to read them as I please.
In conclusion, condition matters to me enough but not to the point where I will scoff at a 7.0 over an 8.0

I don't mind getting HCs with a tiny bit of shelf wear on them...most of the time it's barely noticeable at all...but when I can snag a $24.95-$39.95 cover price HC for $5-$10 I grab them. I would do this as well, however, those are a rarity in MWs and DC Archives. At least where I tend to look.

The staples are still silver and intact. But it's mine forever. I just wanted it. I've read the story, like, 5 times already in less than a year (and fitting it into all the OTHER reading I'm doing) in MMWs. It's my favorite, so I had to have a copy of it.

I don't have any specific rules. I just buy what I like and can afford. I like to read some old comics for nostalgia, or stories that I missed first time round, so a complete comic is good for those, but sometimes I just love the cover, (nothing beats those old covers) so a coupon missing, small page tears or yellow pages isn't a big deal if the cover is decent. Life isn't black and white... or four colours even.

Like, don't tempt me because I will get stupid.

There are only two conditions; complete and incomplete. Personally, I'd amend that to complete, incomplete, and scary looking black @#$% smeared on the back cover. But I am absolutely Mister Quarter Bin.

Yeah to me it depends but generally price is most important. I just bought a comic with a little chunk missing out of the cover because it was a dollar

I may be over simplifying and it may be more complicated but it's mostly certainly a money issue more than condition. It's easy to say NM when you disposable income allows it and out of necessity to say "it doesn't matter" when it doesn't. I've been in both situations. What a lack of funds has allowed me to appreciate is quality over quantity. That's not to say I'll forget that appreciation if some imagined future hands me a wad of cash. ;-)

I'm almost indifferent to condition. But not quite. I don't like water damage because of the smell. I buy virtually no floppies any more. I'm not super keen on library culls when it comes to to trades and graphic novels. I can deal with them, but for some reason they bug me.
