I think the Holiday Special was never even broadcast over here. It was the 70s, no one wanted to create an international incident int he middle of the Cold War, we needed to keep all our European allies, not alienate them by giving them something like the Holiday Special to watch -M

I think the Holiday Special was never even broadcast over here. Likewise, we never got it over here in the UK either. But contrary to popular belief, the Holiday Special wasn't a Christmas special, it was a Thanksgiving one. Since Thanksgiving means less than nothing outside of the U.S., I suspect that's why the show wasn't shown in Europe.

I've just realised that Marvel hasn't done a comic adaptation of The Force Awakens. That's nuts! You would've thought that that would be an obvious thing for the company to get on the shelves in time for Xmas. Every other SW film has had a comic adaptation done for it and the original Star Wars movie had two! So, why not have one for TFA? This makes me sad.

Do they even do comic adaptations of films anymore? Whenever I go to comic shops or conventions, I always see many copies of comic adaptations sitting in the bottom barrel discount piles (Affleck Daredevil, Garfield Spider-Man, Singer's X-Men). I don't recall seeing any adaptations of the more recent Marvel Studios films being released. I feel like film adaptations were bigger sellers back in the era when it was not as easy to re-experience the films themselves.

I'm sure you're right that movie adaptations made more money back in the days when films weren't so easily enjoyed outside of the cinema. Certainly, I experienced the original triology many more times as a comic book than as an actual film until the mid-to-late '80s, when they were released on VHS. But you'd think with a big film like The Force Awakens -- which I imagine has a fairly sizable number of comic readers within its fan base -- would have an adaptation done. Also, it's kinda like a tradition to have a comic book adaptation for a SW film. I don't know, I just think it's a shame.

On Snoke:
Let me play the fanfic game, tongue firmly planted in cheek!
Snoke is Darth Vader's father! All that stuff about Shmi undergoing a virginal conception is just a misconception: the poor woman was drugged and impregnated during her sleep by this big bad evil Force user, who had calculated that she would produce an extraordinary child.
This will allow J. J. Abrams to continue the trend started in Star Trek: into Darkness and continued in The Force awakens: that of basically retelling an old story. (Hey, I enjoyed The Force awakened; I just think it did recycle a lot of the original film). In this case, Snoke can beat up Rey in a lightsaber fight and go for the big surprise reveal:
"They never told you what happened to your great-grandfather..."
"I don't have one! Anakin Skywalker didn't even have a dad!"
"No... I am your great-grandfather!"
"Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"
Man, that has to be the worst idea I've had this year... But 2016 is still young!

I notice the Holiday Special is absent... Perhaps he's in denial? Or maybe his therapist has told him not to talk about it any more. On the same subject, where are the two Ewok movies - Caravan of Courage and The Battle for Endor? I don't have a therapist and The Holiday Special is so bad it almost makes me want to watch an episode of Doctor Who. Almost. I suppose I could have tossed The Clone Wars movie in there as well.

Disney was in triple secret mode before the movie came out. The novelization wasn't even put out until January. If we see an adaptation, it might be next holiday season.

If you're ok with throwing away an hour of your life you will never get back to watch something that even the 9-10 year old Star Wars fanatic in me recognized as pure crap and a waste of time even when there was no other new Star Wars content available, then go for it. I put away my Star Wars figures for like a week and a half after watching it trying to shed the ugh feeling of it all. -M

The fact that Disney hasn't tried to monetize it yet (DISNEY!) should tell you all you need to know about the Holiday Special.

Not sure if there any stamp collectors here, but England issued this smart looking sheet as well as individual stamps. Naturally, I had to get several posted to me...this looks great on an envelope.

I saw these winking at me...calling to me...taunting me...every time I went to the post office before Xmas. But I bravely refrained from wasting my money and buying them. A stamp collector I ain't! They do look very cool though.
