Justice League of America Chapter 6
Secret Origin Part 1
Written by Mr. Jupiter
Fate looked out into space. He was on monitor duty in the Justice League of America satellite, not one of the more thrilling perks of being a member, but a neccessity. The night had been quiet, which he was thankful for, but that made for a long and boring shift. He received an alert that one of the members had utilized a transport tube and was arriving in the satellite. Seconds later, White Canary materialized.
"Sara!" Fate greeted his teammate. "What brings you up here?"
"A boring and quiet night. I thought I would pop up here and see if you could use some company."
Fate smiled. "I'd love it. It's neen unnaturally quiet tonight."
The two heroes chatted. "I've been reviewing some of the old case logs." Fate started. "Actually, I'm just getting through the first adventure you all had. Starro returns."
"Oh wow. That's been a few years ago. That's when we came together and formed the team."
"I'd love to hear about it rather than reading this log." Fate said, very interested.
The White Canary smiled. "Well, let me see if I can remember....It all started with Jem."

Los Angeles
"I'm sorry Jerrica. You simply don't have enough capital to get your record company back. When you signed the deal with Eric Raymond to offset some of your father's debt, he got controlling interest in Starlight Records." an attorney in an expensive suit said to Jerrica Benton, the singer known as Jem.
"But I have plenty of money in my personal account, I can sell a couple of houses if I have to." the pretty blonde replied.
"I'm sorry. You need to hang on to that money. This contract is iron clad. Eric even controls some of your property, even some publishing rights. I'm sorry Jerrica, you're stuck for now. I wish you'd have let me review this contract before you signed it."
Jerrica frowned. Her sister, Kimber took her hand.
"Don't let this get you down, sis. We'll figure something out to get the company back." the pretty redhead smiled. Just then the building started to shake.
"Whoa, did you feel that?" Jerrica asked. She could detect the soundwaves in the air begin to change frequency. "Get under that desk! NOW!" she shouted as she, Kimber, and the attorney took cover. The building shook for what seemed like hours. In reality it was 33 seconds.
"Was..was that an earthquake?" Kimber asked.
"It was. Come on, we have to evacuate the building." Jerrica said.
Moments later, the building had been evacuated. Jerrica and her sister made their way to the sidewalk. Debris was all over and a few injured people staggered about.
Jerrica turned and noticed part of a building about to collapse on a group of EMT workers assisting the injured.
"Showtime, Synergy." she said, touching her earrings and transforming to Jem. She pointed her fists towards the falling debris. Manipulating the sound waves in the air, she crushed the debris into dust.
"Thanks for save Jem!" One of the EMTs shouted and waved.
Jem smiled back.
"Well done sis." Kimber hugged her sister.
"If only I could get back our company as easily." Jem mused as she dashed about helping out where she could.
Miles out, the ocean began to settle after the seismic disturbance. A handsome young man with platinum hair sped through the water. Cerdian was the son of the former Aqualad and sometimes superheroine, Dolphin. He often spent his time in the open waters, as he felt trapped and confined in Atlantis.
"Even though that was a minor quake, my friends may be upset.", the young man with one green eye and one blue eye thought.
He had befriended a group of dolphins that lived in this area and wanted to check on them.
"Their cove is just over here." Cerdian smiled as he approached the dolphin family.
"You guys ok?" he said telepathically.
The dolphins charged at him before he knew what was happening.
"Hey, what's up..what's wrong?" Cerdian asked as the dolphins pummeled him time and time again.
"Something's really wrong here....is one of them hurt...do they think I did it...." his mind racing. As he tried to defend himself without harming one of his friends, he noticed a shadow emerging from a crevice. His eyes widened. "Starro?"
"Yes, Atlantean. Starro. After all these years....I remember....the Justice League defeated me....our final battle...they nearly killed me, they thought they did....never found me.....been waiting here to awaken, to regenerate. That earthquake...I'm awake!" Starro's mental words shattered through Cedian's mind like a migraine.
"He's trouble....I remember Arthur telling me of Starro." Cerdian tried to focus.
"Yes, yes I am trouble." Starro said, striking Cerdian with one of his tentacles, another tentacle inserting itself in the back of Cerdian's head. "I must feed. Need knowledge of the world."
Cerdian screamed as he could feel the tentacle dig deep into his skull. "AGGGHHHH!!!!" he cried, his brain on fire. Starro then tossed the young man through the ocean, a stream of blood pouring from his head. Within minutes a group of sharks approached the injured Atlantean.

"Absolutely not!" I forbid this!" Dinah Lance screamed at her twin daughters.
"But mother, you did the same thing! Sara and I have each other!" Laurel Lance countered.
"Yeah, we can protect each other. And we don't need some archer in green to protect us." Sara Lance said.
"Don't you dare bring Oliver into this. And I saved him just as many--or more times than he saved me." the former Black Canary scolded her daughter. Several years had passed since Dinah had been the heroine known as Black Canary. She had a notorious romance with her teammate, the Green Arrow, but eventually married her first love, Larry Lance. She left the Justice League and started a family of her own, having twin daughters.
"I inherited your cry and I've been training. Ted Grant says I'm ready." Laurel said.
"And i've been training too." Sara added.
"This Ted Grant character, who he is? Some gym owner?? Being Black Canary nearly got me killed more than once. How do you think your father will feel about this!?" Dinah said, as Larry entered the room.
"Dinah, calm down. I support our girls on this."
"What??"
"Think back, you and I had some grand adventures when you ran your first flower shop. I even lived there...in the back room between cases."
"Times were different then, not as complicated!"
"True, but you didn't let anyone tell you what you could and couldn't do. You were independent, a trait you instilled in our girls."
Sara and Laurel smiled at their father.
"But you girls have careers, good ones." Dinah said.
"Mom, we're both involved with law. I'm an attorney and Sara's a detective. We've both got the inside track. And this city could use heroes again. "
Dinah looked at her girls, dressed in matching outfits. One in black and one in white, both girls in matching blonde wigs. "Fine. Go. Just please be careful. Star City is more dangerous than ever, the crimes are more heinous...." Dinah said, choking up.
"Don't worry Mom, we're ready." the girls said in unison.
Dinah Lance sank into her husband's arms as her girls left their parents. The girls got on matching motorcylces and rode away.

Malibu:
"I'm really proud of you son." Charley Parker said, tussling his son's hair. "You handled that wave like the pro you are."
Chuck Parker smiled at his father, the former Golden Eagle.
"Thanks Pop. Surfing gives me a rush...such a thrill...."
"I know what you mean. Sometimes I miss the old days with the Titans."
"But I came along and you had a screaming brat to raise."
"Screaming, yes. Brat, no." Charley smiled.
The duo returned home after Chuck had won a surfing competition. Charley had retired to raise his son--as a single father--after his girlfriend left their son with him. Charley was a retired professional surfer and had provided a nice life for his son. Chuck was enthralled with his father's stories of the Teen Titans, Hawkman, and the Justice League. Charley turned on the tv.
"Wow, there was a small earthquake that hit L.A. Must've been why the waves were so wild today." Chuck surmised. "Guess we're lucky, didn't really feel it here."
"Yeah, looks like L.A. might need some help." Charley said, noticing his son looking towards the basement door. "Son, are you--"
"Dad, I know you wanted me to wait, but this is perfect timing. The city needs Hawkman. You've trained me, Carter Hall's trained me, and Mrs. Duncan has been working on my suit. I can't think of a better time to make my debut."
Karen Beecher-Duncan, Charley's old teammate known as the Bumblebee had worked on an old Thanagarian battle suit for Chuck. The young man was determined to become the new Hawkman and make his dad even more proud.
"I think you're ready. I just want you to be careful."
"Don't worry Dad. I'll hang loose." Chuck smiled as he flashed his dad the hang loose sign with his tan fingers.
Minutes later, Chuck emerged from the basement in the suit. His helmet, shining gold.
"Wow, you fill out that suit better than I filled out mine." Charley said with pride.
"Just keep that cougar Miss Kane away from me, haha." Chuck replied, referencing Betty Kane, the former Bat-Girl. He hugged his dad, picked up his mace, and flew into the summer sky towards the areas affected by the earthquake.
Beverly Hills
Despite the earthquake in Los Angeles, models were preparing for a big Versace fashion show. Life in Beverly Hills carried on and there was no damage there. Scott Trevor was backstage in a chair. A young woman worked with his hair.
"Scott, what's your secret? Your hair always is so easy to fix. And you never need much make-up."
"Good genes I guess." the son of Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor said, sipping a glass of wine.
Chaos reigned backstage as models, seamstresses, hair stylists, and make-up people ran about. Some models were trying on different outfits, some were snorting cocaine and downing pots of coffee.
Scott Trevor had conquered the cut-throat world of male modeling. He had won Mr. World a couple of years ago and was currently the highest paid male model in the world. While his parents were proud of his accomplishments, they were disappointed in his wild lifestyle. He had made the cover of many of the gossip rags.
"I saw that story, you know the one where you made the cover of the National Enquirer." the young woman started.
"Lies, all lies. I haven't been to rehab. I'm not giving up modeling. My parents are not disinheriting me. And that kid isn't mine." Scott said, reaching for the wine bottle, quickly chugging the contents. "Bring me another bottle of wine, please."
"Another bottle?" an intern asked.
"Yes, I said 'please'." Scott said, staring at the intern. Being an Amazon, the young man could drink more than a regular person.
"Yes sir, coming right up." the young intern said, running to find Scott Trevor another bottle.
Just then, Scott noticed everything get very quiet. He looked around and everyone seemed to be in a trance.
"Hey, what's going on? Snort up, drink up. Your choice, but keep the party going." he said getting out of his make up chair. Everyone was very still. He was getting creeped out. He waved his hand in front of another model. "Like I'm not even here. What in Hades is going on?"
Everyone shuffled outside. Scott followed. Hundreds of people had gathered, all looking up at a giant starfish. Scott looked up. "Star, star something....from one of mom's first adventures with the JLA. Can't remember its name, too buzzed...."
Starro started to speak. "No knowledge here...nothing but vapid, self absorbed thoughts. But, you still will serve me well." Starro floated away, the people following.
"Didn't want to reveal myself just yet, but this seems like a good time to do it. Mom and Dad have been so disappointed in me, saying I party to much. Maybe this will show them I'm not just an airheaded model." Scott thought. He ducked into an alley and started to spin like his grandmother had showed him. Seconds later he was in red, blue, and white uniform. "Wish there was a mirror here so I could see how good I look." he wobbled about.
"Man, all that spinning and those 11 bottles of wine did not mix well. Come on Scott, you're an Amazon. Shake it off."
With that, he looked upward at Starro, planning his next move.
Coast City
"It's not all I thought it'd be." Green Lantern said to the Flash. The duo sat on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
"I know. I wanted to follow my father's example." the Flash replied, the sun reflecting off his helmet.
"I always thought there'd be other heroes, a new Justice Society of America, even Infinity Inc, if they'd lasted, to join." the green haired woman mused. "When I became Green Lantern I was so excited.
"You've been awesome, though. You and I team up a lot. We took down that new Clock King, the new Royal Flush Gang, and we almost met Superman."
"I know. We had that new Chemo on the ropes, but here comes Superman, swooping in and saving the day."
"Yeah, he didn't even stick around to say hello. I know he's the original Superman's son. Looks like he has Metropolis under control, doesn't need lots of help."
"Even L.A. didn't need us. The EMTs had everything under control." Green Lantern sighed, referencing the earthquake from earlier in the day.
Flash and Green Latern had been active a few months. Green Lantern was the daughter of Kyle and Jennie-Lynn Rayner. She recently inherited her power ring after visiting the old Justice Society of America brownstone. The Flash was the son of Barry and Iris West. He wore a silver helmet as a knod to the first Flash, Jay Garrick. The young heroes had emerged at the same time, often teaming up hoping to be part of something grand, something big like their families had been. So far, they had succeeded in being overshadowed by the new Superman, but had taken down a few new villains.
"You two could sit around here moping, staring at the ocean or you could do something." Came a rich voice. The platinum haired man stared at Green Lantern and the Flash.
"Who are you? Aquaman?" Flash asked, the sun refected off the man's costume, making his features hard to distinguish. Green Lantern noticed the man had a bandage on the back of his neck.
"My name is Cerdian. My parents are Aqualad and Dolphin. I come from Atlantis with troubling news."
"Cerdian. I heard Wally West mention you before. He was a Titan with your father." Flash smiled.
"Yes, my father has spoken fondly of Wally West and the others." he said, going on to explain his run in with Starro.
"A family of sharks took you to Atlantis? They didn't eat you?" The Flash asked.
"Sharks can be nice, once you get to know them." Cerdian smiled.
"That's good to know, but if what you say is true...that Starro is back, we could all be in for big trouble." Green Lantern said, her ring glowing.
"I overheard part of your conversation. How you two have had some adventures. I never planned to become a hero, but Starro...he got in my mind...violated me. I want payback." Cerdian said grimly as his fist tightened around his trident.
Flash and Green Lantern looked at each other and smiled.
"I can't think of three more brave or bold than us." Green Lantern said. She created a green platform to carry Cerdian. Flash joined them, running along the ground.
