I'm pretty ambivalent about Ultraverse in general, but I love Firearm by James Robinson. I'm still trying to track down a sealed copy of #0, which came with a VHS tape containing a 30-minute Firearm live action movie that never aired anywhere. A great little series, James Robinson at his peak - Firearm started just before he did Golden Age, Starman, and Leave It to Chance. If I had know... I had one sealed (and no real interest for it) and I gave it to salvation army before my move in July...

Oh, I was under the impression that you were saying that the cable car was what created all of the characters in the Ultraverse, which I did actually think at one point tbh The Jump Start was an alien device located on the Moon. It was malfunctioning and every so often sent a beam of energy which would give superpowers to anyone it struck. The cable car was the most major strike, and that event was also referred to as 'the Jump Start'. An early strike was responsible for creating Hardcase. A race to find the device formed the basis for one of the first major crossovers in the Ultraverse. The Jump Start was one of three ways to gain superpowers in the Ultraverse (at least originally). The others were technology (such as Prototype's armour, or the 'wetware' sported by various characters) or magic. I always liked that element of limited ways of gaining powers.

I enjoyed a few of the Ultraverse books. I liked Sludge quite a bit. Great Lopresti artwork. Rune was great because it was BWS back in comics. Exiles was great when Warren Ellis was writing the book. I love his take on Ghoul.
Short lived imprint but had some fun stuff in there.

I think I liked Mantra the most because ...well... she was a babe. It featured early Terry Dodson art

I was looking online to see how Black Knight ended up back in the MU, and apparently he and Sersi go into the Ultraverse for a while... I had no idea? How'd that work out?

This was part of a two-part Avengers/Ultraforce crossover event with art by George Perez that might be of interest to you if you haven't read it before. I mean, it's Avengers bey George Perez, so it can only be so bad.

I honestly don't remember much about them except I liked the art, especially given the time period. Lot of bad superhero art going around back then. I also recall not really having much of an idea what was happening; something about alternate realities where the Avengers and Ultraforce were the same team, so there was a mixed roster of alternate members from both universes or something.

Decided to change the title (yet again) for just general discussion about Malibu as a whole (not to say that Ultraverse chatter is discouraged). Same goes for their three other imprints, Aircel (formerly a Canadian based insulation company funded by the government), Adventure, and Eternity
Aircel probably had the most "meat" of the three. The non-pornographic Barry Blair stuff is fantastic, especially Gun Fury

Anyone here have most of the first issues of each Ultraverse series? It would a cool review thread. I could do Prime #1 & Hardcase #1. Let's see........ I have Mantra #1, Hardcase #1, Firearm #1, Prototype #1, Solitaire #1, Exiles #1, Break-Thru #1, and Freex #1 And just for bragging rights, my copy of Prototype #1 is the newstand edition with the error cover that Prototype cover must cost at least .50- .60 cents now.

Well, considering that I bought it for .25..... But no, I've never been into comics for profit, just enjoyment Though I may at some point get Englehart to sign it just for kicks
