Justice League of America Chapter 8
Secret Origin Part 3
Written by: Mr. Jupiter
"That's right! Prepare to meet your maker!" Starro screamed.
"Oh God....everyone, get behind me!" Green Lantern commanded, creating a bubble in an effort to protect herself and her new friends.
"Look up in the sky!" White Canary gasped.
"Is that a bird--?" Black Canary asked.
"Oh great, here it comes. We failed and Superman saves the day." Green Lantern thought to herself.
"It's a plane...a blue and black one." Flash said. "Batman?"
The plane hovered overhead, releasing a powdery substance all over Starro.
"No! No!! Not again!!" Starro writhed as his body was covered in quicklime. The quicklime bubbled and hardened as Starro tried to resist. Moments later he had stopped moving. A red and blue blur crashed through his hardened body, shattering it.
"Superman!" Wonder Man shouted, rushing over to Jon Kent's side. "Thanks for the save, bro!"
The son of Superman and the son of Wonder Woman high fived.
"You two know each other?" Green Lantern asked.
"Of course we do. Our parents remained friends over the years." Superman said, his voice gentle, yet rich. "It's no secret my dad was the original Superman. He and Wonder Man's mom are friends to this day."
Green Lantern rolled her eyes.
"Who's in the jet?" Aquaman asked.
The group looked over as a female form emerged from the cockpit.
"That's Batwoman. I passed her in the sky on the way here. I saw a report come through in my office in Metropolis about Starro. Thought I'd fly out here and see if I could help. Wonder Man, you look great. Your Mom is going to be so proud." Superman said.
"The quicklime, where did you get it?" Aquaman asked the woman covered head to toe in black, save a red bat symbol across her chest.
Her cape billowed in the wind as she answered. "I have access to chemists. I asked them to whip up some synthetic quicklime. I saw that Starro had the nearest factory destroyed. The Justice League defeated Starro the first time with quicklime. I figured it would work again. "
The heroes all looked at each other for a moment.
"Well, I guess that's that." Superman said, starting to lift into the sky.
"Hold on just a minute! You fly in here, saving the day and you're just going to leave?" Green Lantern demanded.
Superman looked at her, puzzled. "What did you expect? I have to get back to Metropolis."
"Don't you see? We all worked hard together today." The Flash started, sensing his friend's intent.
Superman hovered for a moment. He looked at Wonder Man who shrugged his shoulders.
"I think what Flash and Green Lantern mean is that we worked well as a team. We all came together at the right time and saved the west coast, maybe even the world." Hawkman added.
"What are you suggesting?" Batwoman said.
"I know my sister and I got into this wanting to help others. We were travelling, helping people and we came across Aquaman, Flash, and Green Lantern. It's almost like fate brought us all together." Black Canary smiled.
"I admit, it took all of us to beat Starro. But we all barely know each other. I know Wonder Man very well, but I haven't heard of most of you until today." Superman replied.
"Fine, go. Who needs you anyway." Green Lantern said, crossing her arms.
"What's your problem with Superman?" Jem asked. "Why do you seem to have this chip on your shoulder?"
Green Lantern looked at her for a moment and took off her mask. "My parents are Kyle and Jennie Raynor. Green Lantern and Jade. Members of the Justice League and Infinity Incorporated. My grandfather was Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern. I want to make them proud, be part of something, carry on what they started."
The Canary Twins removed their masks. "We're the daughters of Black Canary. We wanted to use our abilities to make a difference in the world." The White Canary smiled.
"Me too." Flash added, removing his helmet and mask. "My Dad was Barry Alan, the 2nd Flash and a member of the Justice League.
Aquaman and Hawkman shared their stories as well. Jem too.
Wonder Man replied, "I was going to go solo, but teaming up might be fun. Kind of like a New Titans."
"I think Justice League of America might be better. None of us are teens." Jem replied.
"I don't know. Teams really aren't for me." Batwoman said.
"Me neither. I stay pretty busy in Metropolis." Superman said.
Just then, the group was stormed by reporters, newscrews, and photographers.
"How's my hair?" Wonder Man asked White Canary.
"It's fine." White Canary laughed.
The reporters fired away with questions. "Who are you?" "Are you reforming the Justice League?" "Jem, is this a publicity stunt for a new album?" "Superman, are you dating anyone?" Wonder Man, what is your connection to Wonder Woman?" "Hawkman, Which Hawkman are you? Are you the same one from the old Justice League or the one from the Justice Society?"
Superman watched what was happening and noticed Wonder Man making his way to the front of the group.
"Sorry, no questions right now please. We'll hold an official press conference next week...live from Metropolis." Wonder Man said.
"Are you the group's spokesperson?" a reporter asked.
"Yes, yes I am. Now, we must go. Villains to catch and all that." Wonder Man gestured to Green Lantern. She created a platform and the non-flying heroes stepped aboard. Seconds later, the group disappeared into the sky, leaving reporters still firing off questions.
One week later.....
The young heroes had assembled in the WGBS studios. The press conference promised by Wonder Man was underway. Aquaman, Batwoman, The Canary Twins, Jem, Hawkman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Man, and the Flash were all seated at a table.
Wonder Man began, " Last week, one of the original Justice League's enemies resurfaced and was defeated by the wonderful people seated with me. After much discussion, we, with the blessing of the original Justice League of America members and the United Nations, have been granted a charter to reform the Justice League of America."
Those in attendance erupted with applause.
"Our membership will include everyone you see here, with the exception of Superman and Batwoman." The Flash added.
A reporter asked, "Superman and Batwoman, why are you not joining the new team?"
Batwoman replied, "I don't do teams."
Superman added, "Let me clarify, Batwoman and I will be reserve members. We both have lots to contend with keeping Metropolis and Gotham City safe. When the need arises, we both will assist the league."
"We have been granted access to the original Justice League satellite and will be headquartered there." Aquaman added.
After a brief question and answer session, the newly formed team used a reactived teleporter and arrived in the JLA satellite. The satellite had been refurbished with all the latest technology, including devices from the Inter Agency Defense Command, as well as technology from Thanagar, Paradise Island, Wayne Enterprises, Oa, and Krypton.
"Look!" Jem said, excited. She pointed to a giant silver table with the Justice League of America symbol on it. "Our chairs have our symbols on them!"
"This is so cool!" Hawkman said taking his seat.
"Before you get comfortable, there is an intiation into the League." The original Superman's voice came.
Jon Kent spun around and saw his father, dressed in his Superman uniform.
Wonder Woman, Batman (Bruce Wayne), Aquaman (Arthur Curry), The Flash (Barry Allen), Black Canary (Dinah Lance), Green Lantern (Kyle Raynor), Hawkman (Carther Hall), and Mera were all present. Superman held the Crimson Avenger's uniform in his hands.
Later, each new hero had been initiated into the League, and the original members departed, wishing their counterparts the best. The new League members took their seats.
Each of them looked over a printed agenda for their first meeting.
"Looks like we need to appoint a chairperson." Hawkman said.
Green Lantern perked up.
"I'd like to nomintate Aquaman." The Flash said. He sort of set this in motion, for me and Green Lantern at least.
"Any objections?" Black Canary asked.
Green Lantern started to speak, but decided not to. She desperately wanted to be the first chairperson, but agreed Aquaman was the best choice.
Superman passed the gavel to Aquaman. He smiled as he held the gavel in his hands. He tapped the gavel and said, "I officially call this meeting to order."

"Wow. Just wow." Fate smiled at the White Canary. "Much better than reading a boring case log."
"Yeah, it's a great story. One I enjoy sharing." the pretty blonde smiled.
"I didn't realize Superman and Batwoman were sort of reserve members at first."
"Yeah, they were only around when we really needed them for the first year or so, then they became full-time members."
"Thanks for helping me pass the time tonight. It's rare it's so quiet."
"It was nice. I enjoyed it. Looks like my sister is up next for monitor duty. Maybe I'll stick around and keep her company."
Just then there was a bright flash of light accompanied by a puff of smoke. Before Fate and White Canary stood a slight, pale woman in a blue dress. Her head was covered by a hood. She pulled the hood back to reveal long black hair and a red jewel at her widow's peak.
"How did you bypass our security!" Fate demanded, glowing ankhs materializing from his hands.
White Canary assumed a martial arts stance and drew her battle staves.
The woman in blue said. "Please...please you must help me! Your world, your entire dimension is in grave danger. My father aims to destroy you all. Please...listen to me. My name is Raven."
