I really am baffled by Space Force/Guardians. Couldn’t such a force simply have been a “subdivision” of the USAF?
It just felt like a Trump ego trip, to be honest. Did any of his predecessors talk about a Space Force?

Lame Duck #2 referred to Space Force (I cannot take seriously any military command that sounds like a Saturday morning adventure series, done by Filmation) are going to be referred to as "guardians." Well, this whole thing sounds like it was concocted by demented racoons. Jamie Gunn tweeted, "Can we sue this dork?" Get in line behind Paramount, after the logo fiasco. I'm waiting for the introduction of the new commander, William "Buck" Rogers. Might have to wait a couple of hundred years, though. ps The video says it's the Season 1 intro; but, the footage is from the mess that was Season 2, with Wilma turned into a glorified stewardess (complete with outfit) and the premise became a reverse Battlestar Galactica. I watched that show loyally in spite of not much liking either Buck or Wilma.

Trump was only worried about "branding" things. In that way he could claim it for himself as his own idea. All about being in control and for profit.
Space Force is so 1950's sounding. Not a name to reckon with or represent for today, that's for certain.

Considering that the intention is to actually go out into Space, the word is now offensive, just because of who is associated with it.
There, I'm an astronaut

Over time, some have said that forums will be replaced by Facebook groups. Not on my watch! I am not a fan of being a part of some FB groups (I’m on a few). Why? Because, and it’s getting worse, they are turning into people’s personal selling pages, almost an extension of eBay, so much so that some groups I am in have now banned selling. I was in a group devoted to the 80s Eagle comic, but while thoughtful posts, and I tried to make mine thoughtful, got little “traffic”, there was a never-ending stream of posts such as, “I have some Eagle issues to sell...” or “Box of Eagle comics to sell, make me an offer...” A group devoted to Marvel UK comics has a strict no selling rule. People just clog up the groups with selling. And what is even worse is that you get buyers, too. I logged on to a UK comic group earlier today - and the latest post was someone asking if anyone has any Mighty World of Marvel comics to sell. Go and try eBay, dude! It makes me sick! A lot. Doubly frustrating is that, unlike forums, good topics on a FB group get lost quickly and end up down the page in record time. At least when you log on to a forum like this, you can see the topics in front of you - and get notified. Not on FB groups, I don’t think. I put a topic in the Airwolf FB group about real-life stealth helicopters. It got little traffic, but within minutes of posting it, someone had posted an inane topic of a blank screen with lots of red hearts, fawning over Tom Cruise and wishing he was in an Airwolf remake. Groups suck! If I ever set up a FB group, there will be a no-strict selling policy. Imagine if the CCF was like this - and every time you logged on to the main forum, there were just countless topics along the lines of “I have some Spectacular Spider-Man issues to sell” or “Box of Hulk comics to sell, make me an offer”. No!!!! If people want to clog up groups with sales and requests, then don’t. Go to eBay.

Half of the reason why I left the Valiant Fans forum was because there was a whole sub-forum devoted to market speculation. Look I'm not against making a profit off of something, but comics (much like books) are, in theory, meant to be read and enjoyed by those who buy them
The facebook groups "Marvel Comics In The 70's" and "Comics In The Silver And Bronze Age 1956 to 1985" are reasonably free of "buy my xxxx". And to be fair, groups are the only reason I bother with Facebook anymore aside from keeping up with friends and loved ones. Much like this forum here, they're usually full of like minded people that share similar interests

Did any of his predecessors talk about a Space Force? It was already part of the USAF: Space Command. It was an actual Air Force division, which handled satellites and things related to security of space; but, (REDACTED) so this crap was concocted to branch them off as a separate branch of the military, rather than a command within the USAF structure. I'm sure there was some behind the scenes brokering from the defense industry, to sell more overpriced junk for "space defense" and whatnot, which is easier in a separate budget, rather than the Air Force Budget. Professor Neil deGrasse Tyson has gone on record elaborating the type of work Space Command, and, by assumption, Space Force do and would do, which includes protecting America's (and one would assume NATO allies) communication satellites and the GPS networks, as well as tracking potential environmental dangers from space debris and objects. (REDACTED) Pretty sure the future heads of Space Force will be the military equivalent of the kid who got wedgied every day and stuffed in lockers, until they actually stop an invasion by the Daleks. See, that's half the problem; no matter how good they might turn out to be, Space Force will never be as sexy as UNIT!

I'm not against using a platform to sell comics, for example, my dealer does something on Discord, they can talk about comics as well as use one of the channels there specifically for trading....so it's not obtrusive to other areas. During the pandemic, I sold many of the books I parted with this year just by posting pics, price and then dropping off the books by him to distribute.
There are many people who don't just want an opportunity to talk about books, but a chance to get them. So platforms like that work.
Having said all that, I still despise facebook and no longer use that social media.

No partisan politics, please, folks! It only leads to hurt feelings and the politics thread was locked because of it.

I promise I wasn’t trying to start a politics thread, merely an observation about what I perceive to be an ego trip. I promise I’d say the same about any individual politician (any party) who set up a Space Force.

Calls 'em like I sees 'em; but, I'll be good.
I'll just amuse myself by mocking Brian May's Star Fleet...
It may have guitar god stuff from May and Eddie Van Halen; but, it is still cheesier than anything Queen ever did and that includes Freddie Mercury attempting ballet or Brian keeping the mass of curly hair long after any respectable grown man should, even an eccentric astronomy professor!
It's no Arnold Rimmer Experience!

I'm still mad that Red Dwarf isn't available on the American side of Netflix. Can't imagine why, there shouldn't be any licensing issues to speak of

I would suspect Netflix demands exclusivity; so, previous contracts would probably have to have expired. Just a theory, no real knowledge. I have my discs; I'm good!

As far as I know, PBS hasn't shown Red Dwarf in at least 20 years.
