I love Spidey 3 too! Kids sound smart and cool to me.

Spidey 3 was flawed, but I still think it's an enjoyable film. The first two Toby MacQuire films were excellent -- a lot better than a lot of the MCU films, in my opinion -- and I wish we'd have gotten to see Sam Raimi's planned fourth and fifth films because I'm damn sure they would've been better than the Andrew Garfield reboot.
I don't mind X-Men 3 either. Again, it's a step down from the first two, but it's hardly an offensively bad superhero movie.

X-Men was my favorite comics property as a kid and the formative one for me. I could not disagree more. The third movie was absolute trash and wasted potential. They took some of the better X-Men storylines and characters and just utterly butchered them. Maybe it was so-so on its own, but to me personally it was profoundly disappointing. Also Spidey 3 was pretty bad, too. It played a little better on second viewing, but it had major flaws.

I also like Last Stand, although it has been so long since I’ve seen it I’m not sure how I’d feel now. The fact that i have no desire to find out probably tells me enough.
I never watched the Garfield Spidey films and I disliked Homecoming so much that I still haven’t watched Far From Home.
I also really like AotC, maybe behind only ANH and ESB. But I also don’t think it’s a very good Star Wars movie. It kinda feels like a porn parody minus the sex scenes.

Yeserday I kept thinking about “The Dark Knight” and one quote from the movie in particular.
“Some men just want to watch the world burn”
There, I said it.

I am thinking of Uncle Ben's advice lately.

I like the bit with Donald Duck at the end of Guardians of the Universe. Hell, I'm just happy that it got Marvel off their asses and made them reprint the HTD Omnibus

See, I'm not an X-Men comics fan and never have been. I think you could probably count the number of X-Men comics I've read on one hand. So, I had nothing to compare X-Men: The Last Stand to. To me, it seemed like a pretty good continuation of the plot of the first two films, and the transformation of Jean Grey into the raging, crazy Phoenix in particular was really interesting and quite frightening to behold. But again, I am completely unfamiliar with the comic version of that story, so I just accepted what I saw without judging it against the source material. I also thought the "mutant cure" plot line was interesting, both in and of itself, but also as a thinly-veiled analogy for so-called "gay cures". I have no idea whether a drug like this has ever featured in the comic, but again, I just accepted it for what it was. I also felt that killing off Cyclops, Professor X, and Jean Grey was quite daring and done pretty well within the context of the film. This to me seems like the crux of why so many folks here dislike X-Men 3: The Last Stand -- they are comparing it to beloved old comics that they thrilled to as children. For the majority of moviegoers (myself included), they just accepted it as a worthwhile, if slightly less satisfying and more muddled, sequel to the previous two films. It did good business at the box office and on home video too, exceeding the commercial successes of X-Men 1 and 2. So, it clearly found favour with most audience members overall.

A few months ago, I showed my kids Spidey 1 and 2, and they loved them. They asked if there was a third. I explained that there was, but that I didn't own it because it was terrible. Of course, they insisted on seeing it anyway. The thing is...they loved it. Kills my soul, but they loved it. Fortunately, they at least agree that X-Men Last Stand was crap. That reminds me of those students who stated that they much preferred the prequels to the original Star Wars trilogy. Had it been in my power, I'd have flunked 'em!!!

It's not what they did, but in the execution. I've written at length about the issues of the movie over the years, and I don't have the energy to do it again. Suffice to say that in both tone and execution, I found X3 to be extremely disappointing in basically every way, with lackluster or downright bad portrayals of source material and characters.
The mutant cure storyline was done very well in Joss Whenon's Astonishing X-Men miniseries. It's a solid story though there is some baggage that might not make much sense if you've not been following the X-Books.

Didn't Spider-Man 3 also kind of end Topher Grace's acting career or is that just something that I mentally made up?

He seems to have done a fair bit after. Really other than That 70s Show he wasn’t a big deal even before Sipdey 3.

I liked the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies. They tried to do something different while keeping the core of the character intact. The Tobey Maguire movies, at least the first one, had the thrill of finally seeing the comics come alive. The Garfield movies didn't have that; they were like an Elseworlds version. I wouldn't have minded seeing them continue.

I've disliked all the X-Men films I've watched (X1, X2, & First Class). I don't see them as adaptations of the comics; I see them as the comics after Bryan Singer wiped his ass with them.

Not being a great X-men fan (not that I have anything against them) I have little connection with the source material. Watching them from this position of blissful ignorance I would say they're some of the better Superhero movies I have seen.
