Watched both growing up. Liked both. As an adult I guess I would find them a little silly. On a side note I read somewhere that David Cassidy usually recorded his vocals in one take for the Partridge Family songs. In the 4 years the show was on he recorded 8 PF albums & 4 solo albums. All while appearing in every episode and doing some tours. No surprise he burned out....

Perhaps it was just that I was the right age when the Partridge Family was popular but I did watch that show, while a few years later I not only felt no interest at all in the Brady Bunch or Eight is Enough (I tend to conflate the two, for whatever reason), I even felt repelled by them, somehow.

I just ordered the entire Partridge Family series on Dvd. I guess I will know firsthand if it holds up to my cherished memories. It was around 20 bucks so I didn't break the bank.

In addition to never having seen any episodes of Gilligan's Island (I'm going to soon) can I just say that I've never seen an episode of The Brady Bunch or The Partridge Family either?

Those were before my time, but Brady Bunch was in syndication when I was a kid and I watched it a bit, but it was never a favorite.
It's amazing how bad those 70s and 80s sitcoms are in retrospect... I watched a bit of Three's Company and Night Court a couple years back and was horrified at just how dumb they were. Even recently I tried to watch an episode of Sandford and Son, and didn't even get through half of it.

Brady Bunch and Partridge family were in prime time when I was young, and we watched them; and, they were in syndication for years after, and we watched them (before cable provided alternatives). Brady Bunch is the sillier of the two, but it still has a goofy charm. I could watch an episode or two; but not a steady diet. I know them by heart. Partridge Family we did watch relatively recently and it still held up relatively well. The earlier seasons were a bit goofier and the latter preachier; but, from the start, the storytelling was a bit more mature and the music gave it a different dimension. The acting I would say is a toss up, as specific actors were quite good and others what you would expect for their age or the material (on both shows).
If you have seen either of the Brady theatrical spoofs, that is pretty much the tv show, without the ironic modern look back at it. Funny enough, I saw the second film in the theater and when Tim Matheson eats the spaghetti with his psychedelic mushrooms mixed in and starts tripping, seeing cartoon Bradys, I laughed my head off, but many seemed oblivious to what was so funny. I must have been the only person in the theater (which did tend towards a younger crowd) who remembered the Brady cartoon, from Filmation.
There was a Partridge Family cartoon, from Hanna-Barbera; but, it was actually a repurposed Jetsons continuation, with the PF characters replacing the Jetsons. It did have Danny Bonaduce, Suzanne Crough and Brian Forster voice their characters (I doubt they were deluged with offers) and Susan Dey did voice Laurie for 2 episodes. It does have Mickey Dolenz, of the Monkees, as a voice actor (Dolenz had been doing voice work for H-B for a while, including things like Funky Phantom). The Brady cartoon had all of the kids (the adults were never seen) for season 1, then some of them demanded more money and were replaced, for season 2.

I remember watching the debut of the Brady Bunch and thinking, "this won't last long". I did see some Partridge Family episodes; someone in my family must have liked it. That was about the time when sitcoms lost their appeal to me.

I was too young to watch either of them first-run, but they were both staples of early 80s afternoon syndication blocks here in Pittsburgh. Of the two, I've seen every episode of TBB, but PF never really grabbed me the same way.
That said, they are nearly impossible to watch today, but I feel that way about most sitcoms from 1990 or earlier. They just don't hold up well from a comedic standpoint (so many of them, particularly the family-centered ones, are horribly corny), and the terribly-intrusive laugh tracks don't help much; if it's funny, I'll laugh, but if not, don't try to push me into a chuckle.

As a kid I loved Brady Bunch in reruns. As an adult it's terrible.
There are some 70s sitcoms that hold up for me, namely Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart.

I was a by-product of TV Land's early days as an off-shoot of Nick @ Nite and can't ever recall seeing the Partridge Family on there. Gilligan's Island and Brady Bunch though? They were on non-stop

I'm going after 70s DVD boxed set Star Maidens next, proof that women ruled in outer space.

Just before Christmas, I treated myself to the complete Wonder Years box set with an amazon gift card I'd been given for my birthday back in the autumn. I've always loved this series and have had all 115 episodes on video (taped off of tv) for years.
For the longest time this series was unavailable on DVD, but around 10 years ago TimeLife managed to put it out in its entirety, but it was a very expensive deluxe edition and quite a bit of the 60s music that was such a big part of each episode had been replaced with alternate, period-correct music that was easier to license. Then a couple of years back, Fabulous Films re-released the whole series on DVD in a much more affordable edition and with all the original songs reinstated, and that's the version I got.
It's such a wonderful and well done piece of television. My wife and I are really enjoying working our way through it (we've just finished season 2). Just a brilliant series.
