Justice League of America Chapter 11
Written by Mr. Jupiter
Deep within Fate's mystic tower, he reviewed anicent scripts and books trying to find the identity of the woman who had harmed his teammate, White Canary.
"Any luck Jared?" a dark haired, mysterious woman asked.
"None, Madame Xanadu." Fate had asked Madame Xanadu to assist him in his search.
"I have had no luck either. This woman you described, I've encountered teleporters before, even soul stealers, but she sounds like something unique."
"She's certainly stumped me. I've been pouring over these texts for descriptions matching her. I thought she was a demon, but none of the decriptions match her. I tell you, I have never felt such evil coming from one person before....so much hate and manipulation...."
"She sounds formidable. And stop beating yourself up about your teammate. There was nothing you could have done."
"I know....I just hate seeing Sara in such a shape. Maybe if I had moved faster..."
"Nonsense. This woman, whoever she is, is a force to reckoned with and she caught you off guard. With my help, she will not do that again."
"I hope not Madame Xanadu, I hope not." Fate sighed as the duo continued their research.
Metropolis
Lois Lane was perched high atop the Catco Media Building. She was watching a young man dressed all in black scurry across the building tops to a diamond distribution warehouse.
"Right on time." Lois smiled.
There had been a series of jewel thefts in Metropolis and Lois was determined to get the story...and she had a vested interest in the jewel thief. Despite no longer working for the Daily Planet, Lois still worked as a reporter for an online news service. She stepped up on the building's ledge, trying to get a closer look at the young man.
"Haven't seen anyone move that quickly and efficiently since Catwoman's days." Lois thought. Just then a gust of wind knocked her off balance.
"No...no!!" she gasped as she fell from the ledge. Lois screamed as she flew past floor and after floor. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a red and blue blur.
"Easy miss, I've got you." Superman smiled. "Oh...Miss Lane." he landed and carefully let Lois down on the sidewalk.
"Thanks for nothing!" She scowled.
"What?" Superman asked. "I just saved your life."
"I had it under control. I'm not helpless and I sure don't need the likes of you saving me! I didn't need your father's help either!"
"Miss Lane, please. I know things between my father and you didn't work out but--"
"But nothing! Always sticking your nose in. Metropolis can get on quite well without you--and your father!"
Superman knew Lois resented his father, the original Superman, especially after their break up and since he had married Lana Lang. Seeing Clark's son only added insult to injury.
"Miss Lane, I'm sorry. I...I'm glad you aren't hurt." Superman said, turning to fly away.
"Why can't you go to Gotham or Central City!?" Lois shouted at him. Superman realized she resented him. Jon looked very much like his father and it was apparent Lois harbored lots of ill will. He flew away, with his super hearing he could still hear her voice, shouting and full of insults.
When Superman was out of range, Lois looked into her hands. "Mission accomplished" she smiled, gazing upon a lock of Superman's hair.
The JLA satellite.....
Black Canary sat by her sister's bed. She held Sara's cold, lifeless hand. She watched as Sara's face contorted, sweat pouring from her forehead.
"Laurel, you need to take a break. You've been here day after day...night after night." Hawkman said, placing his hand on Black Canary's shoulder.
"I can't leave her. If I were in that bed, Sara would be right here. Has Fate checked in?"
"No, not yet. I'm sure he's got something cooked up to help your sister."
"I haven't told my parents about Sara. Made up a lie about how she's somewhere in Asia on a top secret mission. My mom warned us about this, warned us something bad would happen....begged us not to play heroes..." Black Canary choked up.
"Hey...don't cry." Hawkman said, sitting down next to Black Canary. "Your sister is tough, one of the strongest women I've ever seen. Whatever that woman did to her, she's fighting. She's fighting hard to make her way back to us."
Black Canary smiled at her teammate, as he wrapped his muscular arm around her in comfort.
The hideout of the Society.....
Gorilla God, Blackfire, and Raven were in the meeting room. Brainac addressed the trio through a monitor screen.
"Miss Lane is recruting another member for the Society. This member will be key in freeing Cyborg and Silver Swan. I thought it would be easier to free them, but after reviewing IADC protocols, I believe a.......human touch is needed."
Raven detected disdain in his voice as he said 'human'.
"Bah, I am growing weary of this!" Gorilla God fumed. "You promised us the destruction of the Justice League. Promised us total domination of the world. So far all we've done is take a private girls' school and that was a huge failure!"
"At least the White Canary has been removed from the canvas." Blackfire added.
"Patience, my Society." Brainiac smirked. " I promise you, once we remove Superman from the picture, the others will fall easily. He is the mightiest of them all. Without his muscle, we can pick the others off easily and you will have what you want. But after and only after I have destroyed Superman and his family."
"I'm fine with wating." Raven said. "The White Canary was so delicious....maybe I will dine on her sister next."
"I'm expecting a report from Miss Lane momentarily. "Await my instructions."
With that, the screen went blank.
Back in Metropolis, Lois Lane made her way through a crowded upscale bar. She saw a very handsome man dressed in a dark suit with a crisp white shirt surrounded by a group of women.
"So awful about the diamond warehouse being robbed today, isn't it?" he smiled.
"I wish I knew who the robber was. I'd do anything to get my hands on some of those diamonds." a blonde woman replied as the group watched the news. A reporter relayed the story of how the diamond warehouse had been robbed earlier.
"Karl Kyle? A word please." Lois Lane said, walking up to the group.
The girls all looked at Lois. "Aren't you that lady Superman dumped?"
"Yeah, the washed up reporter!" Another girl laughed.
"I'll show you washed up." Lois said, grabbing the girl and twisting her arm behind her back.
"Hey....let go!" the girl struggled.
"You take your gang of mean girls and get out of here before I break your skinny arm. Do you hear me!?" Lois growled.
The girls shot Lois a dirty look and moved to another table.
"Now, do I have your attendion, Mr. Kyle?"
"You do. How do you know my name?" the emerald eyed man asked.
"Years of investigative reporting. I have something I'd like to show you."
"Thanks, but I prefer my women to be closer to my own age."
"I'm not hitting on you, idiot." Lois said, as she produced an envelope from her purse.
Karl opened the envelope and saw pictures of himself. Pictures taken as he robbed the jewelry warehouse earlier that day.
"How did you....I disabled all the cameras...the security system..." he gasped.
"I'm a good reporter. And I know all about you and how jewel heists are in your blood. I know who your aunt is." Lois smiled, motioning for a waiter. She ordered a glass of wine.
"What do you want? I just did that for fun. Those aren't even good diamonds." Karl replied.
"I have an offer for you. I need your help. Some friends of mine are being held against their will and I need you to help me release them."
"And what if I refuse?"
"I'll be sure every news outlet gets these pictures and knows that Catwoman's nephew has taken over the family business. Your aunt has worked hard to clean up her image. Wouldn't want all her work to be for nothing, would you?"
Karl was very fond of his aunt and didn't want to hurt her. And he was a bit intrigued by Lois's offer.
"What the hell, I'll help you. When do we start?"
"Soon, Karl." Lois smiled as she sipped her wine.
Brainiac's ship.......
"Everything is falling into place." Brainiac smiled looking into a container. Inside the container floated a brain. Wires ran to and from the brain as it pulsed.
"I'm lucky we have this arrangement. Soon I will have no need of you." the brain communicated telepathically.
Brainiac's brow furrowed. "G--get out of my head...."
"Now, now Brainiac. Don't anger me." the brain replied, unleashing a mental blast at Brainiac. The green skinned man dropped to his knees, pounding his head. Moments later he stood, a blank expression on his face.
"Now, tell me how are the plans for my new body coming along."
Brainiac spoke slowly, trying to resist the brain. "Soon...soon you will have your new body. Lois Lane should have Superman's DNA and we can move forward."
"Good, very good." the brain that belonged to the Ultra Humanite said telepathically to Brainac.
