I'm going to be busy in the next 7-10 days and I will do King Kong Vs. Godzilla possibly sometimes in the end of February. Sorry about the delay. I love this movie! I've only seen the American version, with all its weird distractions and American commentators. I love it. I remember looking at the TV Guide in the early 1970s to see what monster movies were showing that week, and there was King Kong vs. Godzilla! I decided then and there - based on the title alone - that such a movie must be the best movie ever made! And then I saw it a few days later, and my bold decision was completely justified! Since then, I've seen a few more movies, and though King Kong vs. Godzilla is no longer my favorite, it's still in the Top Twenty. I own my two favorite Godzilla movies - Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster is the other - and I'm not sure which one I watch more often. They're both pretty good. For the record, I've seen every Godzilla movie up to the American one in 1998 and then I lost track of the big grey galoot. But I did see Godzilla: Final Wars a few months ago. I remember liking it while I was watching it but I'll be danged if I can remember a single thing about it now. King Kong verses Godzilla is a fan favorite and incidentally the first color Godzilla Movie that came out; I'll be watching that movie in the next 3-5 days and hopefully have the review done in 7-8 days from now. I have some issues with King Kong verses Godzilla but it's a very enjoyable film to watch. Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster on the other hand is has some quirks that I didn't care for; but it's a classic monster movie that TOHO made at that time and one of the most talked about TOHO film made in the SHOWA series. Godzilla Final Wars when it's first came out was one of the weirdiest Godzilla Movie that I ever saw in my lifetime; but it was on at 1 o'clock in the morning on the 200+ channels that I got on my Cable Line-Up a month ago and I discovered it an uncut version of that movie and they did not leave anything out. It has it's moments and one of the most action filled movie of the Millennium Series that came out in 2004. Right Now, it's a favorite of mine and it's has some flaws - but it's has lots of intense Sci-Fi / Horror Moments and I learned to like more and more as I grew older.

King Kong verses GodzillaSignificant FootnotesIt was the first Cult Film ever made and one of the most popular films that TOHO Company ever made also. It was more a hit in America than in Japan. It was the first Technicolor Film and that's a groundbreaking efforts done by TOHO itself. One significant thing about this movie is that in a short sequence of this film showing the difference of the size of the brain of King Kong and Godzilla. The commentator quickly pointed out that King Kong's brain is enormous and Godzilla's is a size of a Pea. In this movie it's all about Intelligence and that's why these two monsters ended their historic fight a draw. That's one scene that forever etched in my mind about that 1962 Movie.

King Kong Verses Godzilla - Part 1 of 2In the 1962 Cult Movie ... King Kong vs. Godzilla, Kong instead comes from an island called Farou Island, where he is worshiped by the local natives as their mighty God. Farou IslandKing Kong was discovered by an expedition to Farou Island, which was sent there by Mr. Tako, marketing executive for Pacific Pharmaceuticals, in order to find a legendary monster worshiped by the natives. The expedition only heard Kong's roar from the mountains, but saw the beast himself when he battled a Giant Octopus that attacked a village on the island. After chasing the octopus off in victory. Prior to this Godzilla broke out in that Icy Prison that engulfs him in Godzilla Raids Again that set the stage of the this historic fight between two legendary monsters that threaten the world. Kong began to drink jugs of the Soma Berry Juice that the natives had prepared, and fell asleep. The expedition members had Kong tied to a raft and taken back to Japan to be used as publicity for the company, but their boat was stopped by the Japanese Coast Guard, who informed Tako that he would be liable for any damage caused by King Kong in Japan. Suddenly, Kong began to stir and try to break free of the raft. The crew members opened fire on the dynamite attached to the raft, causing it to explode. Kong emerged from the water unharmed, and swam to the Japanese mainland. Kong rampaged along the coastline until he encountered Godzilla in the wilderness. Kong tossed a boulder at Godzilla, who responded with a blast of his thermonuclear breath, which singed Kong's fur and set much of the forest ablaze. Kong scratched his head and walked away in defeat. To be continued ...

THIS link goes to the original version of King Kong vs. Godzilla on Youtube. It's got Spanish subtitles, but those of you familiar with the US version should be able to follow along. For those of you that have heard myths over the years about how the Japanese version ended, now you can see what happened.

I'm still amazed by how good the special effects are in the original movie. The level of detail on the suit is amazing. With the shift in tone the quality of the suits took a massive nosedive. There was the Down-syndrome Godzilla from Raids Again, the Cookie Monster Godzilla from The Sea Monster, whatever the heck the Son of Godzilla design was supposed to be, and the puppy-Godzilla from the last 3 movies. I can barely watch any of the Showa era films because of how terribly designed and cheaply made the suits are. It takes the fun out of watching a giant monster stomping through buildings.

King Kong verses Godzilla, The Finale ShowdownLater, Kong arrived in Tokyo and easily passed the electrical barrier that had been used to repel Godzilla earlier, actually drawing strength from the electrical currents. Kong smashed several buildings in his path and grabbed a train, and while looking inside was smitten with Fumiko Sakurai. Kong grabbed Fumiko and dropped the train, then climbed to the top of the National Diet Building. The J.S.D.F. surrounded the building and loaded rockets with the Soma berry juice while playing a recording of the Farou Islanders' chant, hoping to lull Kong back to sleep. After a few minutes, Kong fell unconscious and slid off the building, allowing the J.S.D.F. to rescue Fumiko. Note: The way they handle Fumiko in this sequence in the special effects department of where Kong and her was so laughable - I consider the way TOHO Studio handling it was a F because it was the worst miniature in the history of TOHO Films. The J.S.D.F. then formed a desperate plan: bring Kong to Mount Fuji so he can fight Godzilla and the two monsters will destroy each other. Kong was tied to several large balloons with indestructible metal wire and carried to Mt. Fuji. Kong was dropped onto Godzilla, and the two titans resumed their battle. Godzilla again claimed the upper hand, eventually battering Kong into unconsciousness and razing him with his atomic breath. Luckily for Kong, a lightning storm passed over head and Kong was struck by lightning, re-energizing him and surging an electrical current through his body. Kong grabbed Godzilla's tail, electrocuting him with his touch, and the battle raged on, this time with both combatants on equal footing. The monsters fought across the Fuji wilderness until they reached a cliff, where they tackled each other into the ocean below, causing an earthquake. After the tremors settled, Kong emerged from the water, victorious, and began to swim back to his home on Farou Island.

Godzilla verses Mothra - 1964 MovieMovie TrailerNews reporter Ichiro Sakai and photographer Junko Nakanishi take pictures of a wreckage caused by a typhoon. They uncover a strange, bluish-gray object in the debris, not knowing its significance. Later that day, a giant egg is discovered on the shore. The local villagers salvage it, and an enterprising entrepreneur of Happy Enterprises named Kumayama buys the egg from the local villagers. Instead of letting leading scientists study the egg, Kumayama wants to make it into a large tourist attraction. Later, Sakai and Nakanishi are informed that the strange object they found is extremely radioactive similar to Godzilla's. KumayamaThe EggWhile Sakai, Nakanishi, and scientist Professor Miura are discussing the egg at a hotel, they discover Kumayama checking in. Kumayama meets with Jiro Torahata, the head of Happy Enterprises. They are unexpectedly confronted by tiny twin girls known as the Shobijin and try to capture them. The Shobijin escape and meet with Sakai, Nakanishi and Professor Miura. They explain that the egg belongs to Mothra. If the egg hatches, the larva (though they have no quarrel with man) will still cause great damage looking for food. The trio agree to help out and figure out what the next thing to do here. Tiny Twin GirlsSakai, Nakanishi and Miura try to reason with Kumayama and Torahata but fail to do so and the Shobijin Fairies leave. The three of them return to Kurada Beach, to determine if there is any more radioactive contamination; and, knowing it cannot be Mothra, try to find what the source might be. SakaiNakanishiMuira
