Godzilla verses Monster Zero or Invasion of Astro-Monster
Part 2 of 2Glenn and Fuji begin to worry that the Xiliens may have ulterior motives. Their suspicions appear confirmed when three Xilien spacecraft appear in Japan. The Controller apologizes for coming to Earth without permission. The Xiliens locate Godzilla and Rodan, both sleeping, and use their technology to transport them to Planet X. They also bring Glenn, Fuji, and the scientist Sakurai with them. Transporting Godzilla and RodanFunniest Moment in this movie - Godzilla's Victory DanceAfter a short confrontation, the Earth monsters succeed in driving Ghidorah away. Glenn and Fuji sneak away during the battle and encounter two Xilien women, both of whom look identical to Namikawa. Xilien guards confront the astronauts and bring them back to the Controller, who reprimands but does not punish them. The astronauts are given a tape with instructions for the miracle cure and sent home, leaving Godzilla and Rodan behind. The tape is played for the world's leaders, but instead it contains an ultimatum demanding that they surrender Earth to the Xiliens or be destroyed by Godzilla, Rodan, and Ghidorah, who are under the aliens' control. All three Monsters attacking EARTH!Glenn (Nick Adams) storms into Namikawa's office and finds her in Xilien garb. She admits that she is one of their spies, but confesses that she has fallen in love with him. Her commander arrives to arrest Glenn and executes Namikawa for letting emotion cloud her judgment, but not before she slips a note into Glenn's pocket. Glenn is taken to the same cell as Tetsuo. They read Namikawa's note, which explains that the sound from Tetsuo's invention disrupts the Xiliens' electronics. Tetsuo has a prototype with him, which he activates, weakening their captors and allowing them to escape. The pretty lady eventually gets Atomized! ... As shown below! Sakurai and Fuji build a device to disrupt the Xilien's control over the monsters. Glenn and Tetsuo arrive to share the Xilien's weakness. As the monsters attack, Sakurai's device is activated and the sound from Tetsuo's alarm is broadcast over the radio. The invasion is thwarted and the Xiliens, unable to fight back or retreat, destroy themselves en masse. The monsters awaken from their trance and a fight ensues. Devo Flying Saucer - The coolest Flying Saucer in the Showa Era of Godzilla Movies A Cycle Light Ray Gun ... So freaking cool ... I just loved all the machines that in this movie! Fuji acknowledges Tetsuo's important role in the victory and no longer thinks poorly of him. The astronauts are reluctant, but make the best of this moment, happy that the Earth is safe. Ending of this movie

Ghidrah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964)Police Detective Shindo is currently assigned to guard Princess Selina Salno of Selgina during the Princess' visit to Japan, due to a suspected assassination plot. Although Shindo is smitten with Selina's photograph, her plane never makes it to Japan, as it is destroyed by a bomb en route. At exactly the same time a meteorite shower draws the attention of Professor Murai who along with his team of scientists strikes out into the wilderness to examine the largest of the meteors, which has magnetic properties. Princess Selina being played by Akiko Wakabayashi who is better known in English-speaking countries for her role as Bond girl Aki in the 1967 James Bond movie You Only Live Twice. Akiko Wakabayashi is also in The Key of Keys, the movie that Woody Allen used for his classic What's Up, Tiger Lily?

Akiko Wakabayashi is also in The Key of Keys, the movie that Woody Allen used for his classic What's Up, Tiger Lily? That's one of my favorite Woody Allen films ... thanks for pointing it out! What's Up, Tiger Lily? also has Mie Hama, from You Only Live Twice, King Kong Escapes and King Kong vs. Godzilla. I love seeing these Japanese actors flowing seamlessly from Godzilla movies to Kurosawa or Ozu, and then popping up in What's Up, Tiger Lilly? I'll be watching a Kurosawa film, and I'll go "I know that guy! He's the guy who arranged the wedding of the chicken and the snake in Tiger Lily!" And, incidentally, the guy who arranged the chicken/snake wedding is also in Ghidrah, the Three-Headed Monster. I think he's killed when the plane blows up. He's also the bad guy in King Kong Escapes and his voice is Paul Frees. It always cracks me up that Dr. Who sounds just like Burgermeister Meisterburger.

Hideyo Amamoto as Dr. Who in King Kong Escapes. As Shinpei Inami, the toymaker who lives nearby, in Godzilla's Revenge. As Yahachi in Yojimbo. I had trouble finding a still of Hideyo Amamoto in What's Up, Tiger Lily?, but he's here, in the right column, second from top.

Monster Spotlight - EbirahLooks like a Giant Lobster to me. General Notes: Ebirah's name is derived from the Japanese word ebi (海老?), meaning shrimp, even though he's actually a lobster. The "ra" (ラ?) part of Ebirah's name is a common suffix for kaiju names. Ebirah generally looks like a giant lobster. His body is red all throughout, and he has one pincer that is bigger than the other one. He also has two antennae and a giant nose-like shell piece. Ebirah additionally has multiple legs and multiple segments in his body, leading up to a normal lobster tail. Height: 30 Meters ... 98 Feet (Lying Down), Standing 50 Meters ... 164 Feet Weight: 23,000 Metric Tons

Sadly, Toshiro Mifune never made it across the Toho Studios lot to do a Godzilla film. It's a tragedy of epic proportions! However, frequent Kurosawa collaborator Takashi Shimura - from Ikiru, The Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Stray Dog and many other Kurosawa classics - was in several Japanese monster movies. Here is Takashi Shimura starring in Ikiru (which I sometimes call Japan's Citizen Kane): And here he is in the first Godzilla movie as Dr. Yamanee:

Godzilla verses the Sea Monster - In FullAfter Yata is lost at sea, his brother Ryota steals a yacht with his two friends and a bank robber, the crew runs afoul of the giant lobster Ebirah, and washes up on the shore of an island, where a terrorist organization manufactures heavy water for their purposes, as well as a chemical that keeps Ebirah at bay. Yata RyotaThe organization, known as the Red Bamboo, has enslaved natives from Infant Island to help them, but the natives hope to awaken Mothra to rescue them. Mothra was a surprise to see in this movie and I feel that Mothra has no value in this cornball movie that I just saw. Red Bamboo, headed by Captain RyuuHe was a complete idiot in this movie. In their efforts to avoid capture, Ryota and his friends, aided by a beautiful native girl, stumble across Godzilla sleeping within a cliff side cavern. The group devises a plan to defeat the Red Bamboo and escape from the island. In the process, they wake Godzilla using a lightning rod. Godzilla fights Ebirah, but the giant crustacean escapes. Godzilla is then attacked by a giant condor and a squadron of Red Bamboo fighter jets, but destroys them. Yeah, that was the thrilling moment in this movie. Giant CondorBeautiful Native GirlHer name was Dayo and she was the star in this movie. And, the best actor around ... Mayhem and DestructionThe humans retrieve the missing Yata, free the enslaved natives and Godzilla begins to destroy the base. Godzilla smashes a tower that has a self-destruct button that makes the island unstable. Godzilla fights Ebirah and defeats it, ripping off both Ebirah's claws and causing it to retreat into the sea. The natives summon Mothra to save everyone, however, Godzilla challenges Mothra when she gets to the island. Mothra manages to push Godzilla away and carry the people off. Natives summon MothraBattleGodzilla escapes the island just before it explodes so that he can live another day.
