I talk about the new series done by 80s legends here, including Walt Simonson's Ragnarok and George Perez's Sirens. With that in mind, two and a half questions for you all: 1) If you're interested in any of these titles, which ones would they be? 2) Which other 80s legends would you like to see come back and do their own thing/ 2b) Bonus question: For every answer to #2, tell us what kind of series you think they'd do.

I've already added both Ragnarok & Sirens to my pull list, but since I first encountered both's work in the 70s, not 80s I don't think of them as 80s legends.
Also both of them have been fairly active on books pretty consistently for the last several years, so I don't see it as a return, as much as just their next projects.

I really just more meant that their landmark runs, the ones that really solidified their statuses, Thor and Titans/Crisis, were from the 80s, and they are also both making some waves right now, at the same time, as opposed to something like George just doing Power Girl/Huntress because someone was going to do Power Girl/Huntress. That's really all I was getting at, no more and no less.

As to who I'd like to see return, of the same generation as Simonson/Perez is Mike Grell. Last I saw of him was the Warlord revamp and a couple of installments of the digital first Arrow comic based on the CW show.
Not sure what I'd like to see from Grell, something original like Shaman's Tears and Jon Sable were most likely, something we haven't seen before. If he were to return to a property he's already done, maybe more Maggie the Cat or something we didn't get a lot of from him.
-M
Edited to add-maybe something from Steve Englehart...an adaptation of Long Man/Point Man, etc. the stuff he's done recently in prose, or more Scorpio Rose or something of that ilk.

Ooh, Grell would be intriguing.

Lots of guys I can think of, since the 80s are my favorite comic book decade: Dave Michelinie - He's proven (to me, at least) he's still got stories in him with 'Legacy of Doom', and his Armor Wars II alternate (the Iron Man 258.1-258.4 mini series). I'd love to see him write a Rhodey solo, be it Iron Patriot, War Machine, or something else. It would also be pretty sweet to see him take over (or write a 2nd book next to) Dan Slott's semi-corporate Spidey. Roger Stern - It would make me very, very, very, very, very happy if he came back to take over Avengers after the Hickman Train Wreck derails at last. I wouldn't mind him taking a swing at Iron Man, either... the only major Marvel character he hasn't written. Fabian Nicenza - Rich Rider, please. He's not gone, but I also really want to see a Mark Waid in-continuity Superman story at some point.

I know he's still around here and there, but I also would like to see Roger Stern on a monthly Marvel book.
My absolute favorite return would be Byrne to the Marvel universe, but that seems unlikely to happen

I'd be intrigued by Byrne, but I wouldn't clamor for it...he's done about 1/2 great stuff and 1/2 dreck IMO.

True, it would be under the hopes he's regain his 70s/80s Marvel magic, which is just as unlikely

It's far too pervasive for modern surgeons to successfully remove

Maybe someone could APPEAL to that ego.. make sure he's in a room with a couple 'modern' writers..say, Kirkman and Hickman or something:
Kirkman: 'Did you see that 'dreck' Claremont put out with Nightcrawler? Hickman: 'Yeah, those old guys really need to retire. Can you Imagine John Bryne trying to write my Avengers?'

Great article and thanks for the heads up on Sirens and Ragnarok!
I would love to see Grell do a Legion book again...never gonna happen but I can always wish...

I'm kinda happier with the 80s guys doing their own stuff, right now, if they can swing it. Simonson's doing beautiful stuff, Chaykin seems to drop in, do a comic, split for somewhere else to do another comic, Frank Miller's got work, Colleen Doran's got more going on and more control now than ever, Who'd a thunk, around the time Marc Silvestri was giving Havok a frayed two-piece to match the Goblin Queen, that he'd be where he's at now? John Ridgway just half-reinvented himself as an artist in the past ten years.
What I'd really like, is to see more of their 80s stuff get back into print, including, thinking of Ridgway, backups or short comics various people did, like his Scarlet Witch story or Kyle Baker and Priest's humor strips for Crazy or Marvel Fanfare. Nth Man needs to get back in print. The Cockrums' Nightcrawler mini. Duffy & Co's Fallen Angels. X-Men vs Micronauts (vs rapey insane speedo Xavier).
How was Steven Grant's movie? The shoot'em up?
