I haven't liked a live action DC Comics movie since 1989's Batman.
I don't like The New Gods.
I guess this is a WIN-WIN.

Is Action Ace with me on team "New Gods suck"? I like Darkseid and Mr. Miracle is ok, but I can live without the rest. From what I've read so far, you and I aren't going to be on very many teams together so enjoy this very brief moment.

Darkseid and Miracle are where my interest ends too. so we are to be enemies then...

If I was a bean-counter at WB, I'd rather they bankroll profitable franchises (like Batman) instead of green-light another Jonah Hex, or Green Lantern, which is just squandering a budget.
The two most bankable characters in DC are Batman & Superman...use them....oh wait, they are doing that.
From she who is willing to give Ben Affleck a chance...

I think they over rely on Superman and Batman, especially in animation, instead of giving their other characters chances to shine. I'd love to see Green Lantern get another chance, with a much better movie of course

I'd love to see Green Lantern get another chance, with a much better movie of course Considering how inexpensive those animated films are to produce and release, I'd love to see DC attempt to coordinate some sort of dense universe building there, rather than in the high stakes, limited release mainstream movie market. Why not release an animated feature for each of the Golden Age characters, then the Silver Age crew, then Crisis on Infinite Earths? Have a continuity editor meticulously coordinating the stories so that there are minor events in each film building towards later developments, much like Marvel has done with their films? In the long run, I think the animated direct to video films afford DC a greater opportunity to experiment, tell riskier stories, and create more output featuring more characters. Plus, you've got less Hollywood execs meddling in the creative process and restricting creativity.

I agree with you, except I'd add more Metal Men and Legion movies to that list. and you also mentioned the main reason DC movies will always have a much smaller chance of being good, Hollywood execs. Marvel studios has fortunately maintained some autonomy to do things their way

It couldn't be any worse than the Flashpoint movie

Plus, you've got less Hollywood execs meddling in the creative process and restricting creativity. Except their focus on the animated movies is now on doing adaptations of recent stuff...Son of Batman adapting the Morrison stuff and Justice League War. Next up the JL/Aquaman Throne of Atlantis story. They want synchronicity with their current printed material in the animated line, not development of their back catalog, which they mostly consider an afterthought now. I think the new direction was resisted by Timm, which is why he ultimately stepped down from the leadership role he had within DC animation, as he seems much more interested int he classic DC stuff than the newer material. The direct to video market may afford them more room to experiment but it seems they are much more conservative here, focusing on stories with built in current audiences to ensure profitability of the projects. -M

I think the quality of the finished product ever since Timm left speaks for itself, but maybe it's making them more money, what do I know. I just think my son should be able to watch a Batman movie without hearing "sperm donor" in it. Or better yet, he should be able to watch a Metal Men movie
Metal Men!!!
