I wonder if I'm the only one on the site who likes McFarlane's Spider-man No. It's one of the few of his works I like. I especially like his Lizard and Demogoblin. He's good with monsters and Spidey, having a mask and all but his human faces are ugly to me. It's the one distraction of his art. Invasion! was another good example of aliens vs humans. Edit: Using google I found a Pinterest (whatever the hell that is) blog?/collection of Action Comics #1 tributes. Including the afore mentioned buxom nude cave gal, otherwise I'd post the link.

It's funny, I just bought and read that ASM issue....it sucked.
I don't mind McFarlane. I find his work on Batman and Spawn much more enjoyable. Spider-Man, well, some of the stories and art I like, some I just laugh at (like this one).

There must be hundreds of homages to Action #1. A quick google comes up with dozens of examples. Another McFarlane:

I wonder if I'm the only one on the site who likes McFarlane's Spider-man If you're talking about his artwork on Spider-Man (the character), I retain a soft spot for it because it was the Spider-Man that I grew up on, and the Spider-Man that I most tried to emulate when I went through my childhood period of wanting to be a comic artist. If you're talking about his book titled "Spider-Man"... I re-read that book years ago when I was getting back into comics and found my old stash in my parents' house and... the writing was pretty awful. A lot more awful than I remembered it being.

I'm still a fan, artwise. He brought back the Ditko-style contortions and added his own spin, and I'll always prefer the big eyes, the slightly darker-to-the-point-of-black blue, and the more "packed" webs on the costume. I have a soft spot for McFarlane in general, though.

There's a blog examining the issue here and lots of the ones we've seen here are there as well, plus a few others. This blog examines whether the cover to Action 1 was itself an homage or swipe. of course it's not just comics that homage it.... -M
