Here's one with Wonder Woman in Sensation Comics #51 Interesting. Apart from the split windshield, the car is virtually identical to the Action #1 car. I wonder if Peter was consciously referencing a then eight year old comic book or if this is just a happy coincidence. Tossing around heavy, motorized vehicles was apparently de rigueur back in the day.
ETA: If I'm interpreting this cover correctly, you would need scientific notation to calculate the number of ****s not given by Dr. Strange here. Throwing the gangsters' car into the path of an oncoming train will likely cause serious destruction and injury to the train's presumably innocent occupants. But then, this is a guy whose superhero costume is "trousers and a belt." This is not your father's Dr. Strange; this is your grandfather's Dr. Strange!

I might be a little pissy and uncaring if I had to walk around with a broken neck like that too....unless one of his superpowers is an owl's neck and ability to rotate his head 360 degrees. -M

It was probably five or six years ago, we had a "comic scholar" show up who'd written a book, part of which was saying that Action #1's cover was a direct steal of this painting. To "prove" this he drew all kinds of seemingly random lines and angles showing how things matched up exactly (except that they didn't). Collective CBR pretty much tore his theories apart and made him look like a fool, all very respectfully and factually. It was great fun!

I don't know about anyone else, but I can't see the painting you're referencing. It's just a box with blue diagonal lines.

Hmmm...it still shows up when I dump my cache, so I don't think it's blocked, but here it is rehosted.

In case people can't see it, it's Hercules and the Hydra by Antonio Pollaiuolo. One thing I'm wondering ( a bit off-topic): there are a lot of tributes to Action Comics #1. Also Amazing Fantasty #15 and Fantastic Four #1, but Detective Comics #27, you hardly ever see referenced (I've seen a few, but few and far between). If people use Batman covers, it's usually the Dark Knight Returns or Detective Comics #38.

Hmm...yeah, I can see it. I think you need more than just the lifting of the car, but here you've got the guy in the foreground corner as well, and the man in purple is sort of the same. And both pictures also have the slightly less-panicked man, too.
