1963, Big Numbers and Miracleman are the biggest thorns on my side. As a mostly-trade reader, I've never read any of these, despite bein' a pretty big Alan Moore guy. I should fix that. Keep in mind that, the pending work from Miracleman is by Gaiman. Moore's tenure is complete. Anybody knows if the endless legal dispute with MacFarlane has made any progress?

Oh yeah, Marvel(!) is reprinting Moore's Miracleman right now. Although they can't use Alan Moore's name, which is funny. That doesn't really sound like my sort of thing the way the other two do, so I'm waiting for the Hardcovers to come through the library.

That's good to know, not only are they reprinting, but Gaiman will finally conclude his project. That's still a couple of years down the road, but we already waited more than 20.

Just read the Batgirl Year One mini, and found it surprisingly good, by Scott Beatty & Chuck Dixon, with art by Marcos Martin & Alvaro Lopez. Not a Batgirl fan, but this was really good.

Batgirl: Year One and Robin: Year One are two solid minis from Dixon. Both are in a trade that came out a few years back. Last night I pulled out this great crossover: I'm a fan of Igor Kordey's artwork. I like his take on Lord Greystoke and his Batman is pretty damn cool. Marz created a great retro-story that teams up these great heroes. Definitely worth taking a read.

I finally read DKSA. I wasn't a huge fan of DKR, even though I liked the art, and heard DKSA was worse on both art and story. So I never got around to reading it. But I'm done with Sin City and am still consuming Miller stuff so I got around to this.
I understand what people mean when they say the art isn't as good. I only actually saw maybe two panels that I thought were just flat out wrong and shouldn't have made print. The rest I think the problem was either he drew it on a late 90's Wacom tablet or the computer coloring ruined everything. Probably a bit of both. The art was still okay, but the unnatural low resolution lines didn't look good.
As far as the story goes, I think I liked it better than DKR, even if he overwhelmed me with superheroes I'm not familiar with, and he was beating the reader over the head with his "subtle" social commentary at times. It was still interesting to see all these heroes argue over what evil they should fight, what the greater good is, where to compromise, where to not compromise, so on. And the Superman/Batman fight where Superman gets the tar beat out of him was a little easier to swallow this time around, when Batman had a team of super powered heroes backing him up.

I'll buy practically anything if I remotely like either character. DC / Dark Horse just worked perfectly together, much like Top Cow and Marvel were a good fit. Just picked up Nextwave : Agents of HATE. Looking forward to it.

Not sure I have that one !
Cool concept, and a great creative team. Wish either one would do more today.
I know Tarzan is pretty buff and all, but uh, that waist is a little too freakishly grotesque.

Well, that cover isn't the best, but Weeks' interior artwork is brilliant. The concept of the ultimate hunters becomes the hunted against the great tracker is well done. If you can find the issues or the trade, snap it up. Simonson's re-releasing Starslammers for IDW and he's got his Ragnorak series from them as well. As for Weeks, he pops up every now and then at Marvel, doing a mini-series.

I think David Lapham and Jimmy Palmiotti wrote the other arcs in the mini, but Weeks wrote and drew the first one. -M

Probably one of the oddest and best inter-company crossovers One of my all time favorite minis. I picked this up last year on the strength of someone's recommendation in the Twelve Days of Christmas thread, and I absolutely love it. It was far more ERB than Predator, but the Preds fit in quite well. I'd love to see Simonson do a Pellucar book at some point. (Or Turok, which he admits is kinda his dream book.)
Weeks is just amazing in general. He's one of the best in the industry, but so completely underappreciated. Getting back to the Liefeld thread, it's puzzling to me that people like Liefeld, Lee, and McFarlane got so much attention when someone like Weeks was working regularly.

I'm a fan of Igor Kordey's artwork. Do you read The Secret History? It's one of my favorite comics of all-time, and Kordey's best work, in my opinion. BOOM/Archaia is finally going to publish the third English-translation omnibus this summer after several years' delay.
