All kidding aside, this is the Avengers to me. #15 to ... I’m not sure. #50, maybe? The podcast was specifically about Cap’s Kooky Quartet, so that’s #16 to #27, I think. I was reading Marvel Triple Action in the mid-1970s, so my Avengers were Goliath, Wasp, Hercules (as well as the Quartet) and they were fighting the Sons of the Serpent, the Living Laser, the Red Guardian and various other bananashenanigans. Which is not to say that the Avengers wasn’t as good or better (it usually was!) in later years. It’s just that I love the mid-1960s Avengers more than anything. I had the same experience. Reading reprints along with the current mag was great. This is why I won't hear anything negative about Don Heck. I never saw and still don't see , anything wrong with his art.

I finished Scalped yesterday. I wasn't as thrilled with the final arc as some people seem to be, but overall I thought it was one of the best series I've read from the modern era, which, for my purposes, encompasses 2000-2023. What I liked about it most was that it dealt with a subject matter that, to the best of my knowledge, hadn't been addressed before in comics, at least not in a full blown series. That's a goal I wish more creators who strive toward instead of giving us their latest take on fascist superheroes. It's a shame that the TV series wasn't picked up, as it probably would have made an even more powerful TV show than a comic, especially if led by a full indigenous cast.
I'm very much in agreement with the feeling that more attention should be brought to the subject of aboriginal issues but for some reason Scalped itself as an individual piece of work has never attracted me. Is that because of the art or the content?

I've come around on Heck and think most of his art is very good or better. There was time in the 80s, though, when DC used him as an inker, which was a mistake.

I will sheepishly say that I didn’t enjoy his DC art. But no one stays young forever.

Just read Black Hole, by Charles Burns. Holy crud. I really need to sit back and process this. That reminds me, I should move this up in my to-read stack. I read a couple individual issues when it was coming out but didn't keep up with it. Then I bought the collection a few years ago but still haven't read it. I've always liked Burns's style.
I wasn't sure how I felt about it until very far into the story. The payoff comes late, but it's unmistakable.

Burns had been playing around with the "teen plague" theme for a while in shorter stories, but like comparing the first 4-page MAUS story to the "real" story, it's at a whole 'nother level.

(...) Although he wasn't my favorite artist at the time, I didn't mind his DC art from the late '70s either (e.g., in Flash as well as occasional jobs in JLA, DC Comics Presents, etc.).

I’m up to Strange Tales #135.
This is the period where Mordo and Dormammu are the villains for about a zillion consecutive issues.
I love it, but I bet it was excruciating for the fans that were reading it month by month in the 1960s.

I’m reading Strange Tales #136, and Doctor Strange is searching everywhere for the secret of Eternity!
This scene with the Aged Genghis cracks me up a little.
The Aged Genghis should appear more often. He could be hanging out with Abe Simpson. Doctor Strange could come by and help them figure out how the VCR works so they can watch Seinfeld.

Just read Avengers 79 and on page 18 Vision switches places with Powerman. Has he ever done that before or since?
