Another great supernatural story and man, I have to say that in this tale Stan gives us one of the coolest monsters I've ever seen. I love how the Nue is a mix of creatures, and the snake for a tail is a great touch. What's interesting is that here Usagi recounts how he once encountered the Skein himself so what I thought was simply a parable for Noriuki seems to hold a seed of truth to it as I doubt usagi would mislead these people.

What seems to plays as a straight up horror/action story with incredible artistic visualization (the monster is so very awesome) also shows the true depths of evil people can stoop to (poisoning an innocent girl and pretending to be something they are not to help perpetuate their gain) and how when you take on a job you should you not shirk your duty. Within this story Usagi was upright, virtuous and giving his all to help this family as he always acts honorably. That the other "samurai" were lazy as a group and only using their skills/gifts to take advantage of an easy job in which they end up paying for their actions is rather ironic.
Some really fun art from Stan this time around with fighting the monster and even cool that once the head is cut off the snake tail has it's own death gasp icon. I love the 2 page panel of Usagi attacking the leaping monster as it lunges from out of the darkness.
