There is so much here that is awesome that it's hard to organize it into words though I suppose I'll start at the beginning and go from there.
To start with the partial depiction here of the Japanese creation myth was stunning, I loved how the earlier Kami were ill defined and scratchy and that they grew more solid as the generations proceeded.
And in Susano-O I loved the older Rabbit Kami, I've always that that in his old age this is what Usagi would look like and the Eight Forked serpent of Koshi is one awesome looking dragon.
As for the epic storyline itself I loved how it brought in the more supernatural elements of the past stand alone stories to the more political elements of the more epic stories giving a perfect balance of everything Usagi has to offer, and it also brings together all the best supporting characters. I've stated before that I've never really liked Jei, but here in what is his last story(in this body anyway) I find him much more likable and his relationship with his "innocent" is fun to see unfold, most of all though I love the escaping souls as he dies it's just a fantastic visual. I was sad to see Je take over Inazuma though as I really liked her character and wanted to see where it was going.

This is how you do epic! A dash of this, a pinch of that and a whole lot of everything stirred well together combining action, horror, history, myth, politics with amazing characterization. Just love the Kami history of creation opening. Nothing feels rushed and nothing drags here thanks to Stan's sense of storytelling. It is a true work of love as can be plainly seen. Such a delight in writing and artistry.
Usagi being the earnest hero knowing that the sword being found is only going to cause trouble while he strives for finding a solution only having things continue to worsen around him. Jei the troublesome with his own agenda for the sword only to end up cut down by the sword he sought to use and dying and being reborn was truly unexpected and even more shocking that Inazuma becomes host to such evil. Where will this go and can she be saved? This is how you keep us reading by producing an epic story and go about intertwining that mythology and history with the characters we love.
The cast of Usagi having their own special voices all ringing true even as they are shown to be players in a grander story of the world they inhabit. Very magical and potent comic book reading to be savored...
