Mine keeps saying American Airlines, maybe it's IP related or something. I used to get ads that would change from time to time. Then I got an ad-blocker installed (not because of CCF, but a computer geek did it for me when he fixed an unrelated problem), Now I have a message on the CCF page saying Please consider supporting this website by disabling your ad-blocker. This website does not use audio ads, popups, or other annoyances. Thank you! HA HA. That's like the TV saying "we see you have a remote control. Please consider not changing channels during commercials" CCF isn't the only website for me whose ads have been replaced by a similar plea. I like what my geek did.

Banner ads like that usualy means too much porn surfing As Ish Kabbible stated, Ad Blocker helps a lot, and if not Ad blocker Plus does the trick, or so I've noticed at the newsroom I worked at.

One of the reasons I went with proboards when I had to make a split decision call on where to host our new community was because they are pretty much the only free forum service that handles their ads tastefully. They could barrage us with advertisements that pop up, make noise, or otherwise distract us from doing what we love here, but they don't. One single non-disruptive ad at the top and bottom of the page. Considering all that we get for free here, including top notch 24 hour support (remember how often CBR's boards used to crash???), and all they ask in return is that those two ads be there. They have an entire staff of people who work full time to do a phenomenal job. Many of the site overhauls I did here happened because I had their help. I couldn't have done a lot of it on my own. And guess what? Those folks need to be able to pay rent and buy food. I ask you not sarcastically to not encourage others to block those ads. These guys aren't trying to dupe us or get something out of us for free. They are asking politely for payment for amazing services rendered. People will pay $50-$200 a month for cable, but they want their online services absolutely without cost. But there IS a cost, and if everyone uses an ad blocker, then they have to find a different way to cover their costs and make their money, and I guarantee everyone involved (including them) would like that alternative less. Look at the damn ad.

Look at the damn ad. I don't mind the ads so much. As you say, they're pretty non-intrusive. Also what comes up is never objectionable (Free Viagra!! Hot Russian girls waiting to hear from you!!, etc) and is occasionally on target. So they're like commercials on the radio or TV. They pay so I can get free content. I can either look at them or ignore them, depending on my mood.

The ads are definitely primed by your browser history... after I book a trip for work, for instance, I get 2 or 3 days of travel ads... shop on Amazon, and you get book ads... watch something on Hulu, get Hulu ads, etc.
I don't block them, for the reason shax stated.. they pay for this forum. I even click on them from time to time, to give us some hits.
The only time I blocked them was a couple years back, they had a beats audio ad that constantly crashed flash and was super annoying.
