CBR articleCBR had 5 contributing writers/editors each pick 1 title people should check out that might get overlooked among the mass of comics released each month. Usagi Yojimbo was one of the 5 chosen, presented by Michael Lorah (others included Vision form Marvel, Nailbiter and Plutonia from Image and Snow Blind form BOOM!). Glad to see Usagi getting some love, but sad that quality books like this need this kind of article in the current marketplace. -M

It really does seem that Usagi's visibility has been on the increase since Stan's return to Usagi, and the launch of stansakai.com and the refit of usagiyojimbo.com certainly help too, but yeah -- how can a work that has endured this long, been the recipient of so much critical acclaim, been celebrated by so many respected comic creators and (to the best of my knowledge) never gotten a bad review, get such little attention? It's so strange to me that, three decades after the rise of local comic shops and the direct market, the average reader seems to crave less diversity in their reading than they did back in the 1970s. Big Two superheroes and maybe some zombies. Folks are missing out on so much more. Fortunately, we now have this section to help change that

I think as a fairly recent development diversity is expanding in the mainstream direct market. Not at the big two necessarily, but Image and Dark Horse seem to be pretty mainstream these days. What I really hope helps are the softcover Sagas in bookstores. That crowd is far more diverse in their tastes.
