I paid $5 for twenty-five issues of the Kitchen Sink The Spirit. Opened them all up...all signed by Eisner.

Prez #1-4, all NM shape for $1 each.
In terms of original art, I recently sold a page I paid $5 for for over $500. (I don't expect that to happen again.)

WOW Oh, the guy didn't know what the hell he had on his table. Back when my folks lived in Chicago, they took me to the Kane County Flea Market. It been ages since I've been a flea market of that size; at least an acre of sellers. But inside one of the house where book dealers were there sat this seller that had comics. Bought some Harveys, but the Kitchen Sink stuff caught my eye, especially when I opened it the Spirits, I was shocked. Bought those and then came back to him and bought a few Fireside Marvel trades and the OHATMU trades.

One of mine includes an Amazing Spider-Man #29 (Vol.2) which came in a sealed bag with a cd. Grainy pic swiped from eBay but one just like it. I'm not sure how limited these were, but they sell for $25 up on Ebay. Neither the dealer nor myself knew there was anything special about this book, and I just picked it out of the bargain bin ($1) because I never saw a Marvel comic packaged with a cd, but a few weeks later I saw one listed on Ebay for $64.95. I never opened it...got a regular copy in a subsequent run of issues I bought.

Not at an LCS, but I bought a copy of Amazing Spider-Man #150 at a church flea market for $.50. A little old lady had a stack of books on her table, most of them just random and uninteresting (to me, at least) issues of series from the late '70s/early '80s, but this was in the pile as well; a little sign on top of the books read "$.50 each". The books had been her husband's, and he had passed away the previous year, so she was using this flea market as a way to clean some things out of her house. I offered her $5 for it, but she said "My husband loved his books and would want this to go to someone who'll appreciate it, and by you offering me more money for it, it shows you obviously will." I couldn't convince her to take more than the $.50, so I gave up and thanked her for the book, which is in at least F+ shape. the comics finding gods will shine on you for that offer to pay more - the right on thing to do.

As a kid, one year on vacation I picked up all the Deathlok books (Astonishing Tales and the Marvel Spotlight final issue).

Missing the back cover, but totally readable GA Fawcett. For a buck.

I don't know if I have any comic books that have monetary value. I'd have to look, but I have quite a few that have sentimental value to me.
1. Captan Britain: Before Excalibur TPB. I had ordered it for over $16 on Amazon from a third party seller. S/he never shipped it. I had a hard time finding a copy of this book online, and never found one brand new (at the time). The weekend I had to have Amazon cancel the order because the shipper never shipped it, I went to an LCS with my husband, and we were going through their heavily discounted TPBs, and he found that book for me. It was $4. So, it may not have any true monetary worth, that book remains one of my most favorite comics ever.
2. I found a lot of Byrne's Alpha Flight in the 25 cent bins at an LCS. I didn't even know what it was. I picked it up based on the look of the title on the covers.

I just remembered one that's probably not worth as much money as it could have: Iron Fist #14 (first appearance of Sabretooth), which I got for 50 cents in a second-hand book store. For some reason, a previous owner traced the figure of Iron Fist with a blue ballpoint pen on the splash page. That's too bad, because the rest of the book is in excellent shape.
I recall that on the same occasion, I found a copy of the second Creatures on the loose issue starring Gullivar Jones; I expected that to be a rare book, but it turns out to be pretty common. (Still a fun read, though).

More than 1/2 of my collection (28 long boxes) is from $1 bins (or less), or e-bay auctions that averaged the same. My most recent ones:
12 early Conans (various pre-Belit issues, and her 2nd appearance) for $1 each Children's Crusade mini, most of the Matt Fraction Iron Man run for $1 each
I also like checking Savers (a local donation re-selling chain), and recently got a few Lone Wolf and Cub trades, as well as a Warlord trade I didn't know existed... $8 for 5 books.

Two of the most memorably entertaining comics that I've got out of the cheapy box have been The Official Rip Kirby (reprinting old 1950s Rip Kirby newspaper strips) and almost the entire run of Alias.

Alias in a bargain bin? Oh, what has the world come to??? I know, right? I think I needed to buy maybe 3 comics elsewhere to complete the run, but other than that, the whole thing was in the bargain bin priced up at 50p an issue. At the time, I only knew Jessica Jones from a few random issues of The Pulse and New Avengers, but no way would I have picked up those issues of Alias had they not been so cheap. Glad I did though. It's an excellent series.

I posted this in another thread a while back, but I forgot to follow up in this one. Earlier I said this: As for my best comic find in a bargain bin, though... I'm still in the middle of negotiating a sale of it, so I don't want to talk about it just yet. But when everything is done I'll certainly be posting the details here. Well, I completed the trade. Here's the book I bought for $1 in a discount bin at a local comic shop - it's a rare price variant: Here's what I got in return: 1.2. 3. 4. 5. Origin of Dr. Strange 6. ...and $200 cash.
