I posted this in another thread a while back, but I forgot to follow up in this one. Earlier I said this: As for my best comic find in a bargain bin, though... I'm still in the middle of negotiating a sale of it, so I don't want to talk about it just yet. But when everything is done I'll certainly be posting the details here. Well, I completed the trade. Here's the book I bought for $1 in a discount bin at a local comic shop - it's a rare price variant: Here's what I got in return: 1.2. 3. 4. 5. Origin of Dr. Strange 6. ...and $200 cash. Very nicely done Scott...and I never even knew about that Spidey. I feel a cussing coming up for my dealer.

Yep. You guys couldn't see it, but I also put on a top hat while I typed it up. (Round of applause) Those reveals read like a list of my favorite finds from the 70s. That you snagged them all in one fell swoop merits not only a top hat, but a turn across the walls and ceiling a la Fred Astaire. Definitely worth the clicks. Congratulations!

Mind you, i did the scrounge through the quarter box thing for more years than i like to think about, and try not to pay more than $3 for a comic, but...
for a dime apiece in the mid-1970's, my mom got me an X-Men #1-3 and #8, Hulk #1 and Fantastic Four #24 (one of my favorite issues, btw)
for a quarter apiece, Green Lantern #40 in MINT condition and Amazing Adventures v2 #11 (they had like six copies of this)
quarter box in a comic shop... Showcase #72 and Beware the Creeper #1 in MINT
for the longest time, a small store that i had to visit with my mother (she did laundry for the butcher who looked spookily like John Carradine) had an entire BUNDLE of She-Hulk #1 open and sold for cover price. These books sat there for YEARS!

I have had some fantastic luck over the years.
I got almost a 100 issue straight run of Avengers in NM for fifty cents each. Issues 205-305.
Got almost complete runs of ROM and Power Man and Iron Fist the same way and in the same NM condition.
As far as value? I paid a dollar each for the last 6 Miller/Janson DDs and only paid a dollar for the scarce Swamp Thing 171.
I think Conan 275 and Swamp Thing 171 are the two rarest comics from the big 2 in the last 25 years.

I must live in the wrong city because the only 2 comic shops in my area have no bargain bins. When I was heavy into collecting (1980's-90's), there used to be a comic shop owned by a lady who always had several long boxes with bargains for 25 cents each & I was always able to find awesome books in great condition, but then, 1 day....she decided to use colored markers to put a big slash mark on every cover in the bargain bins!! It made me mad how she defaced all of these comics & I could never bring myself to buy another bargain book from her. Yes, it is a sad, sad story. Nice to hear everyones story & seeing what bargains can still be found today.
