What's with the fervor for Rebirth? Is it really that exciting? I mean, we've had nothing but constant re-boots and restarts, I'm sure they'll be more.

If I find any Rebirth issues that aren't sold out or priced double the second day, I'll let you know if it lives up to the hype. (I'm guessing that it's highly unlikely.)

I read Detective Comics #934 before going to bed. I can't say I was overly impressed.
It's an overlong prologue. But unfortunately that's to be expected from properties being written for the trade format.
In a nutshell, some mysterious entity is spying on the Bat-Family, and Batman discovers it. Suspecting a nefarious plot and fearing for the safety of the younger members of the Family, he recruits Batwoman to help train some of the members in how to protect themselves.
The four members who will be featured with Batman and Batwoman are:
The Spoiler! Hoo-ray! Go, Stephanie, go!
Red Robin. (Tim Drake.) I used to like Time Drake but I've never read a story where I liked him after he became Red Robin. Red Robin is not a plus for this series. (Is the "Red" in Red Robin short for "Redundant"?)
Cassandra Cain. She's going by the name of Orphan because she can't go by Batgirl. I'm fairly neutral towards Cassandra Cain. I never read her Batgirl series so I only saw her from time to time in Batman and Detective. So I'm going to wait and see what they do with her. In my opinion, the first thing they need to do is change her code name. "Orphan" is pretty silly.
Clayface. (Basil Karlo.) This is pretty damn dumb. I really hope somebody realizes how bad this idea is and puts the kibosh on it fast.
I can see some potential for the idea overall. And it has some nice moments that give me hope that this could be pretty good after they get rid of some of the kinks. Like when Batman reveals his secret identity to Batwoman, and she goes "Yeah, I know, Bruce." I laughed out loud. In your fat stupid face, Bat-God!

I should add that I liked Batgirl #52 a lot.

The bat rebirth doesn't sound as good as the Super-titles or Wonder Woman IMO.

And there's a lot of bad issues in there. I'm used to making the most of it when it's not very good. And that moment where Kathy said she knew Bruce was Batman. That's a good sign. It's great that Stephanie is one of the "pupils." Redundant Robin is good for a few laughs ... or maybe I'll learn to like Tim Drake again. Maybe I'll finally learn to appreciate Cassandra Cain. I find Clayface to be quite the stumbling block though. Comparable to Doctor Druid in the Avengers.

Sound lousy, unoriginal and personally not offering anything for me. I don't care for the whole red robin thing but I like drake ok in general. I still have zero interest in batwoman, dislike spoiler, and basil Carlo wtf? I do dig and miss Cain batgirl though. But not enough I think to bring me back. Oh well. First my hopes for getting back into cap are dashed, now detective. Sigh.

I also got Harley Quinn and Her Gang of Harleys #3, which is stupid fun. And I'm still getting Squadron Supreme, which isn't really very good. #7 is the latest issue. Toro, the original Human Torch's sidekick, has shown up. It turns out that he's an Inhuman! Which seems kind of stupid at first because he's a natural candidate for mutantkind. Maybe he's Marvel's first mutant! But then I thought about it for a minute and it makes more sense. Because Toro is such a ridiculous character. The way his parents were killed in a train wreck and he was adopted by a circus because he was fireproof. And how he caught on fire the first time he met the original Human Torch and became his sidekick. And his outfit - black underpants and boots. Toro is HILAROUS! So, no, don't do the obvious thing and make him a mutant. Do the thing that basically makes no sense and make him an Inhuman. Fortunately, the writer can come up with a great explanation that totally makes sense and isn't the least contrived. So who's writing it? Oh, yeah. James Robinson. Sigh. Oh, well. That's the comic book biz. I admit I'm intrigued by the next issue's cover:

Toro as an Inhuman goes back a few years to the Infinity event when the Terrigen Mists were released across the Earth and lots of unexpected people discovered they were Ihnhumans and had the recessive gene that activated when contacted with the Mists. The event was written by Hickman, I believe, so this isn't Robinson's doing, he's using what Marvel already did the the character 3-4 years back. -M

After I posted, it struck me how WEIRD it is to be reading the adventures of Toro in contemporary comics set in the present day. Yeah, sure, I read his adventures monthly in the 1970s in The Invaders. But this is different. I don't know how long I'll be reading Squadron Supreme. Putting Weirdworld behind us and separating Thundra and Arkon were both definitely steps in the right direction. And I'm actually looking forward to #8!

Vol One has already been released and if I'm correct, it introduces Cassandra as well as Azrael into the Nu52. Batman isn't in it per se other than in flashbacks so we see the rest of the Family teaming up (Dick, Tim, Jason, Babs, Stephanie, Harper). I liked Detective, I thought it was a good set-up with an interesting mix of personalities, from Bruce and Kathy's 'working' partnership to Tim and Stephanie's sparring intellects. Cassandra represents an unstable quantity (can she overcome her upbringing?) and I'm not ready to cry foul over Clayface just yet, going to wait and see how his role plays out on this team.

It's bad enough that they had the gall to screw with the "old guard" by killing off namor, making steve old and then a hydra agent. I don't think the Inhumans are an inherently bad replacement of the X-Men, but when you retcon one of the oldest characters in the Marvel universe (Namor included)into little more than a mutant, that's a very hard pill for me to swallow

As an Inhumans fan, I'm struggling with their choices in stories in the 2 main books.Artistically they've had some fairly poor work, and the stories themselves are just plain boring. On top of that, the greatest Inhuman character is Black Bolt and hes virtually absent in both books, or playing that bartender role. There is so much potential with some very cool characters, abd they're just completely ignoring them. The Karnak book is infinitely better than the 2 core books, and Im not overly impressed with that either.
the sooner Marvel clears up the Terrigen mists the better, it would have been ok if they had done ANYTHING interesting, but they havent, other than decimating mutant and Inhuman alike.
As an aside from my little rant, the Squadron Supreme cover above, ugly, ugly, ugly. The sooner they lose these Alex Garner covers the better. They remind me of the computer colored comics of the late 90s (or even half the coloring now for that matter).

The Terrigen Mists, while cool in theory, have become an incredibly overused plot device in a very short amount of time
