Justice League of America Chapter 17
Written by Mr. Jupiter
White Canary walked along an IADC corridor as she saw Raven being placed in a cell. The pale woman stuck her tongue out at White Canary and licked her lips. The twin sister of Black Canary recoiled as Raven was led away.
"Hey, don't let her get to you." Black Canary said to her sister.
"I know...it's hard....it's still like part of her is in me...and it frightens me."
"We'll figure it out." Black Canary smiled and tried to comfort her sister.
Fate joined the duo.
"Maybe I can help. I've been working on an incantation. Maybe we can purge whatever is left from Raven from you."
"Fate, I'm willing to try anything." White Canary offered a weak smile.
In the IADC hospital, the Superman family was being treated. Clark, Superman, Superboy, and Kara all were suffering the after effects of the Kryptonite attack.
"Thanks to the technology from Paradise Island plus these solar healing treatments, you guys should be good as new." Wonder Man said to Superman. Both Wonder Man and Jem sat at his bedside.
"Yeah, I'm feeling better already. Scott, do you believe what Ultra Humanite said about my parents. He manipulated them into marrying...." Superman asked.
"Man, I don't know. Stranger things have happened. I remember being around your parents. Their love seemed legit to me." Wonder Man offered to his friend.
"Jon, don't overthink this. Your parents love each other and they love you. I bet they would have ended up together even if Ultra Humanite hadn't did what he did." Jem smiled, taking Superman's hand.
Superboy joined the group. He was walking and had healed from the Kryptonite.
"Conner, I'm glad to you see up and around." Superman said.
"Me too. That was a little close for comfort. How's Clark and Lana? And Lois?" Superboy asked.
"They're still treating my dad. My mother is with him." Superman said.
In another part of the lab, Kara Zor-El was dressing.
"I'm glad you're ok." Green Lantern said to the former Supergirl.
"Thanks. So much for trying to maintain a low key life." she half-smiled.
"Have you thought about becoming Supergirl again or even Superwoman?" Green Lanterns asked.
"No.....no I haven't. I was Supergirl for so many years. There are new heroes now like yourself. Superman and Superboy seem to have things under control and I need to figure out what to do with the rest of my life."
Green Lantern watched as Kara exited. She dropped by Clark's room on her way out.
"Clark. How are you?" Kara asked her cousin. She glanced at Lana.
"I've had better days...and worse." the former Superman replied.
The two cousins talked for a few moments. Kara could notice tension in the room. After saying good bye to Jon and Conner, she made her way to a waiting IADC jet to take her to Florida. She could have easily flown on her own, but wanted to reestablish herself as a normal person. Only time would tell what Kara would decide to do with her life.
Back in Clark's room, Lana stared at her husband.
"What's wrong Lana?" Clark asked.
"What do you think? Our life...it's all been a lie....you love Lois. You only married me because of some stupid mental suggestion!"
Clark looked at his wife. "Lana Lang-Kent. Come here."
Lana walked to her husband's side. He took her hands.
"Lana, you are my wife. You gave me a son that we both love more than life itself. You are my home and I love you."
"But--"
"But nothing. We'll get through this. But don't doubt my love for you. Ever."
Lana bowed down and kissed her husband. Neither of them noticed Lois listening at the door.
Lois Lane slumped her head and walked away, choking back tears.
After a debriefing with Tom Tressor, the other JLA members assembled.
"Good work, it was a hard fight but we defeated the Society." Aquaman said.
"If not for Lois and that gun, we might not have been so lucky." The Flash replied.
"We'll need to be there for Superman. His family's been through the ringer. And what will become of Cyborg, Raven, and Blackfire?" Hawkman asked.
"IADC has them. Some kind of tech to neutralize their powers. They won't be going anywhere." Fate said.
"And Silver Swan?" Black Canary asked.
"She's getting the very best psychological help that money can buy. I've instructed Wayne Enterprises to research a way to remove the cybernetic augmentations too." Batwoman said.
"I've asked Titans West and the Jupiter Labs staff to start searching for leads on Gorilla God as well." The Flash added. "He's too dangerous to be left roaming about."
"Not bad for a day's work." Aquaman smiled at the Justice League members.
Lois Lane exited the IADC complex. She stood for a moment looking into the sky. She clenched her fists thinking about how many years had been stolen from her. How the life she had always dreamed of with Superman would never come to pass. She started to cry as a red convertible pulled up to her. It was Karl Kyle.
"Need a ride?" the suave young man asked.
Lois thought for a moment. "Yes. Yes I do."
Karl opened the door for her and Lois smiled as she looked into Karl's emerald green eyes.
In Cyborg's cell, his anger consumed him. First his life had been taken away in the accident when his limbs and most of his body had been replaced with cybernetic parts in an effort to save him. Now his body was destroyed and he was being held together by wires and damaged parts until the IADC could decide how to proceed with him.
"Hello Victor." came a voice in his head.
"Who--?" Victor whispered.
"Shhhh, shhhh. It's me. The Ultra Humanite. I've transcended. When Miss Lane destroyed my body, it's like I achieved a higher level of being. My mind....it's like pure essence now. I've attached myself to your consciousness."
"What do you want?" Victor Stone said, panicking.
"Why dear boy, I want this body. Sooner or later, IADC will patch you up. They are so humane after all. They'll try to keep you here. I'll figure a way out. I'll get Superman and the Justice League. But, there's only room for one of us in here."
"No--" Victor Stone gasped as he felt his mind, his memories being deleted. Ultra Humanite laughed as what was left of Victor Stone disappeared. Forever.
