Published: February 2002 Synopsis: "Lord Yoshikawa is dying, and his final wish is to be reunited with his son Rokuo, a young samurai forced into hiding after killing the son of Lord Hojo in a duel. Unfortunately, Hojo's retainers are also searching for Rokuo, and their intentions are anything but nice. It's up to Usagi to find him, race him through a gauntlet of swords, and get him to Lord Yoshikawa's side before the old man draws his final breath." When Rokuo seemed surprised that his father hadn't sent his own vassal I began to suspect that the old man wasn't who he had claimed but it didn't make the ending any less bitter sweet.

I have to admit that I did not see the end coming either of the first two times that I read this (how embarrassing!)

I have to admit that I did not see the end coming either of the first two times that I read this (how embarrassing!) Yep, I was also taken by surprise the first time. I missed all the hints. The second time, it wasn't until Rokuo said something about his father being in good health the last time he saw him that I remembered how this ended.
