I guess this would be an appropriate thread as any other to mention, I watched Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, which was originally aired as a four part web series. Not being much of a fan of the game itself, just having played them all, as both my boys love Halo, I actually found myself excited and cheering at the end of the movie. I was more wowed at seeing action and characters from the games I've played then with most of the comic movies I've seen in recent years. I think for me, though most criticism was that the first half was a slow start, that it did well in developing a good portion of the character that the movie centers on. Obviously the two most central characters were developed the best, but then the movie is also under 2 hours, so there's only so much time.
One of the things that I appreciated most about the story itself, is the heavy use of military procedure, propaganda, and training/indoctrination of the cadets in showing of how much of war and military is not just training the body but the mind too. What is in the heads of a kid ready to die for something someone told him was worth dying for? Is that valor? Is that ignorance? Stupidity? One of the best realizations in the movie has to do a lot with these aspects. And when I realized that these kids really knew nothing of a most important aspect of the war, that they were intentionally left in the dark, it just really brought me to feel that I was right with them, as they realized their fear. I don't want to say too much for those that may want to watch it, but it really is a great movie, and it keeps even those unfamiliar with Halo, informed and up to pace. Knowing anything about Halo just adds more anticipation of a different kind, than those viewers that might be first exposed to the franchise watching this movie.
Definitely worth 2 hours of your time.

Good to know. I keep seeing it pop up when I'm browsing Netflix for something to watch, but I always skip it. I might give it a go.

Can anyone help me out here? My Playstation in the living room is running Hulu very slow, it's lagging so bad I can't even watch a show. It's hardwired to the modem sitting right next to it. My computer and tablet are streaming normally though. I ran a speed test on my PC and my speed seems fine. As far as I can tell it's a problem with the Playstation/modem connection or with Hulu on the Playstation only. It's not just streaming video that lags, the whole menu seems to be having problems right now. It's been this way all weekend. I think I played Ghosts one day this weekend and experienced no (or very little) lag. But I didn't play today. I don't know at the moment if everything is lagging. I'd think the most likely scenario is something on Playstation/Hulu's end. If it persists, I wouldn't hesitate to call Playstation Customer Service, they've always helped me solve any problem I've had. On an unrelated note, I just picked up my Wii U from lay-away, so if anyone wants to add me for some Mario Kart or Smash (in the future), my ID is JLU51306, same as my username here. You were right. Streaming from my Roku box works way better. I prefer using the Playstation but no big deal.

I know some of the streaming software on the PS3 is wonky, and that especially older PS3s that have been in commission for a while get slow over time. I think there is also some memory limitation on PS3 specifically. I bought a PS3 as a Blu-ray player a year or two ago and while it's great for that and games, it was really disappointing as a streaming device. Only Netflix seemed to have solid software. I found Hulu stuttered a lot on it, and Amazon would straight-up stop and need to buffer every few seconds. At the time you still needed a Gold sub to use the XBOX 360 and that thing was loud, so I bought a Roku 3. Best streaming device I've ever used. Dang-near flawless. Glad you have something working now.
Relevant tangent - if you're interested in learning more and better ways to stream and access content legally, I've found the /r/cordcutters subreddit extremely helpful.

I also love survival horror games. Resident Evil 1 and 2 were two of my favorite games of all time. Silent Hill was also CREEEEEEEEPY. Messed up and disturbing. I played through SH and SH2. I haven't played the Dead Space games, though they are on my list. The Evil Within looks great, too, and I hear wonderful things about Alien Isolation. Man, I need to step up my....game.

Are you using WiFi with your PS3? My streaming services were all crap with WiFi, but since I connected it to the modem I've had no issues.

Dead Space, at least 1 and 2, are great. If you liked RE I would say it's close to RE is space, as a description. In fact, I stayed up too late last night played Dead Space.

I have a backlog of classic games that I bought cheap over XBox Live. Tops on my list are the first Assassins Creed, Alan Wake and the remastered version of Fable. On top of that I still have to play Skyrim (I'm now deep into Oblivion) and I just bought Batman: Arkham Origins since it dropped to $20 bucks.

I'd have to add that 3 did at least one great thing: co-op multiplayer in a horror game. How do you keep tension high when you're playing co-op in a multiplayer game? You make sure that both players see and hear different things from each other. Could have done more with that basic idea and I hope another horror game developer picks it up for use in the future. Meanwhile, I'm planning on getting Deadly Premonition, which is on sale for the Steam Halloween Sale. Haven't played it, but heard great things about it and it'll keep me busy till Dragon Age 3 comes out.

I bought it on 360 because it was co-op, but it's only online co-op, no local. I've been done with paying for Live because I don't play online and get free streaming on PS3, and Wii. My son has already played through and finished DS3, but I'd like the option to play single campaign and co-op with him. The start of DS2 to still gives me shivers. A lot more intense than the start to DS1, though, half way through, DS2, I'm still liking DS1 overall better.

General opinion is that DS2 is the better of the games. I played them too far apart to have a preference either way.

I'm probably half way through DS2 right now. I have to say, at least of what I have discovered I think the new weapons are a nice change. They seem to adapt good to some of the new necromorphs. I like the sharp graphics, and the darker environment, despite, to me, the first one having a more gothic look to it. And I said the opening is chilling. I'm anxious to see how the story unfolds around Issac. I've gotten some interesting bits of information thrown at me as I've progressed that I am trying to figure out before I get the end.

Can't be lagging on Ghosts By the way, I was in like the top 2800 Gungame players last time I logged on, but I had hit the plateau where every time I played (a couple days break since the last time) I'd have dropped nearly 200 slots in my rank, I think because the top couple thousand players are probably addicts and I still play just once in a while. Now it's probably been two months or so, so I've probably dropped down pretty far. I was impressed with myself with how high up I got though, I think I was at four or five prestiges. I don't know if I'm ever going to play it on PS3 again though. With two jobs I don't have time for the game, and by the time I quit the night job I might have a new system.
