So we got a collection of original PS1 games in at work, you know the ones in the long boxes and big jewel cases? Some we sent to our online store (we have a policy now where we only send stuff there if it's worth over a hundred dollars) Some of the cases still had the original receipt from the person who bought them along with various cheat codes written on yellow notepad paper. I wanted to snag Destruction Derby, but somebody got it before me, but I did manage to get the very first Wipeout and Jumping Flash
Jumping Flash is pretty dang fun for something that's considered the first 3D Platformer. Also might be considered a FPS in some respects too

Anybody here play Prey? It's $20 for the game and some of the previous released dlc on the Xbox1 right now. The trailer they had up looked interesting. Kind of feels like a first person Dead Space in some ways. I'm on the fence about buying it. But I haven't bought a new game in ages.

I haven't played it, but I seem to recall it being fairly well-regarded, and a quick google is showing 8/10 ish reviews. Might be worth it if it's the kind of thing you normally like and on sale. I have been playing Chivalry 2. Online only medieval battle game. I played the first one on PC a lot, but got this for PS4 since my computer is pretty long in the tooth. Fun brainless action. No campaign, just battle scenarios or free for all. Castle-storming fun.

Yeah I remember hearing good things about it too. I think I will get it tonight. I haven't played something new in a while and could use a break from Warframe before I burn myself out on it.

I played an older game called Prey, but I don't think that's the one you're talking about.

I finally picked up the Telltale Batman series. It was on sale for $9 and has universally incredibly rave reviews, so figured why not? If I get half an hour of fun out of it, it's as good a deal as 3 Batman comics.

I have no idea if this newer one is a sequel or tied to the older game or not since I never played the old one either. But it seems to be along the same lines of an alien invasion in both games.

The 2017 game is a reboot of the 2006 game. They were going to make a sequel to the 2006 game, but it got stuck in development hell for many years and then cancelled.

Oh I didn't know they were related at all. I really liked the older one. It had some neat mechanics in it that were really fresh at the time.

Okay, I don't really have anywhere else to post this since I am years late to the game, and due to the subject matter I thought folks here might appreciate it. I just played through Season 1 of the Telltale Batman game. It's on sale and has gotten rave reviews, and for the most part, they are very well deserved! For anyone unfamiliar, Telltale's games are more interactive stories/choose your own adventure than games. It's like a lite version of an old point and click adventure with mild quick time events to simulate action. It works well as a vehicle to tell a good story. I really enjoyed their take. They did early Batman starting out, and they did interesting takes on some of the classic characters. The acting was great, and the story was interesting. The first 3 out of 5 chapters were excellent. There were some issues with 4 and 5, though, and that is what I want to get into. First without spoilers, I was shocked at the technical issues. There were lots of slowdowns and graphical glitches, and the game crashed at least three times. Not out of this world, but pretty unusual for a major console release. Huge lag at points, and the time the camera settled inside Batman's skull so you could see his skeleton was unsettling. The story was great overall, but it felt like they ran out of time and rushed the last chapter and a half. Still satisfying, but there were some things that still bug me. Okay, MAJOR spoilers below. As the story is the main point, proceed carefully. {Spoiler}{Spoiler: Click to show}My biggest issue was with Vicki Vale as Lady Arkham. Granted, I expect to have to willingly suspend some disbelief with a comic-book related thing, but this was too much.
For an abused and beaten orphan, how on earth did she get access to such advanced tech that rivaled Batman's? This guy is a billionaire with access to R&D tech and scientists and who can afford best in class, and she has tech that can wipe the floor with him. Also...
How on Earth did she become such a good fighter? Batman dedicated his life to training to fight and has armored suits that tank all kinds of impacts, amplify his attacks, etc. She had the time to become an award-winning journalist, credibly, maintaining that persona, and learned how to fight beyond this level?
Also, let's talk physics...even if we can accept that she is so skilled to dodge most of his attacks, there is no way she would still be standing after taking a full-on Batman punch to the head. Just completely destroys any pretense of suspending disbelief for me. In fact, that's not just this fight. The combat was really unrealistic in this game with people still standing after taking hits that would at best put them in a coma. I know this is rampant with any action-related medium, but it bugged me here in an otherwise grounded "realistic-ish" place.
The reveal of who she was was cool, and good on them making the main villain a powerful woman, but man, they did not adequately explain or support her level of tech, combat prowess, or physical ability. No matter how good you are, physics are physics. Batman in his new fancy Mark 2 super armored punch-enhancing suit* punched her full-on square in the head. She would be donezo.
* Which they also didn't really pay off. They made a fuss of giving him a new improved suit and did basically nothing to show what was good or new about it.
Anyway, I still largely enjoyed the game. I liked the dynamic with Selina, and this a great take on Dent. I feel like it started great, but they just got sloppy and rushed the ending. I also wished they had spent a longer time with {Spoiler}{Spoiler: Click to show}Bruce being at Arkham but I can understand why they got back to the main plot. In any case, it was overall a very enjoyable Batman story, and as good as a lot of comics. Well worth the $9 it is on sale. Also I think the second one is free. I snagged that too, but I think I will take a few days off at least before starting it. Oh, another one! How in the world did {Spoiler: Click to show}Vicki become a world-class chemist capable of synthesizing a sophisticated behavior control drug on top of becoming a famous journalist and super deadly ninja assassin ultimate fighter? There were just way too many leaps of logic and believability for me on this one.

Played some more Smackdown vs Raw 07 last night, think I'm finally starting to get the hang of the controls. Had a match between Chris Masters (me) and The Boogeyman, which I lost, and then one between RVD (me) and Super Crazy, which I won somehow. I got Super Crazy completely red on all of his health indicator body parts and yet he still kept kicking out at the pin count until I did RVD's frog splash finisher

I've been playing The Messenger. It's an old-school vibed modern platformer HEAVILY influenced by Ninja Gaiden, but a lot more modern and polished under the hood. It is very difficult in the first half, but it eases up a bit the second half.
Fun if that's your thing. It eased up JUST before I rage quit, so that was nice.

I loved the WCW and WWE games on the N64 and everything since has been way too complicated for me. I wish they’d just do remasters of those games and put them on current gen consoles. I don’t want to have to play timing mini-games or enter combinations to do things. I want to hit square to strong grapple and the jiggle the right joy stick to execute my finisher. I downloaded that WWE Battlegrounds game since it’s free on PS+ this month and it’s close, but still something isn’t clicking. I also bought Fire Pro Wrestling World, because it looked similar to the N64 games and it has NJPW and that may be the most frustrating game I have ever played. It’s a “timing based strategy game” and it’s not only super difficult but it’s not fluid at all. It’s a bunch of standing around and then both guys try a move. Rinse and repeat.

I played a lot of Here Comes The Pain! and Day Of Reckoning during my youth and prefer those greatly because they're much more pick up and play once you get a feel for the controls. Smackdown Vs Raw '07 is more of a continuation of those systems with a more simulation based moniker. Hell, it even has a mode in it where you can play "booker" for Smackdown or Raw!

Don’t know that I ever played Day of Reckoning, but I for sure played Here Comes the Pain and even it was too much for me. I am real bad at games, though.
