I haven't checked on RE7 as I don't own a console to play it on, but as RE goes, RE4 still remains the pinnacle of the series for me. The ones before are horribly outdated, and I can't even play them anymore. RE4 set the standard for anything following, and outside of not knowing anything about RE7, remains so. Even as much play as RE5 gets in our household, RE4, would get just as much or more had it a local co-op mode. That's what gets RE5 it's play time. As for me, as you all know I'm starting over on my 360 HD, so I was playing some Dark Sector last night. Man, this is almost so perfect. The gameplay is so engaging and the graphics on this 10 year old game are still nice to look at. Throwing the glaive is so fun. I would have liked a more intricate gun upgrading system, but with the glaive the guns are really a back up weapon as far as power. This and RE4 are like the peak of third person shooters. RE4 is definitely the RE game I've heard the most praise for. I don't really play a ton of third-person shooter games (not counting stealth games), but I guess my favorite might be The Last of Us. It's not one of my personal all-time greatest games ever, but it is a very good shooter/stealth/melee game, and I think the story is very well-written and emotional, if not particularly original. Strangely, I liked The Last of Us, but I'm not a fan of the Uncharted games. I don't think they're bad or poorly made or anything, but they give such a small amount of freedom to the player that they are not my cup of tea at all. I will admit that Uncharted 4 had amazing graphics from what I've seen of it, though. Almost everyone that knows I like TPS and cover shooters tells me to play the Uncharted series now that I have a PS3. I heard good things about The Last of Us, and have been tempted to buy it when I see in the store. But I haven't quite bitten the bullet yet. Much like Uncharted because I have enough games I haven't played yet as it is. And I like replaying old games that I really enjoy. But I keep these two on my mind to get at some point.

Marvel and Square Enix (specifically Crystal Dynamics, known for Tomb Raider) just announced that they are going to make multiple games together. The first one will be Avengers themed (ReAssembled). Little more than just a teaser trailer (which shows nothing on the game itself), but I'm optimistic as Crystal Dynamics has done some great games and it's about time that Marvel get some decent developer on their games (though the new Spider-Man also has a good developer IIRC).

I saw Eidos Montreal (the Deus Ex developer) mentioned in the trailer too, which is interesting. I'm definitely curious about a Marvel game from them.

The ones before are horribly outdated, and I can't even play them anymore. RE4 set the standard for anything following, and outside of not knowing anything about RE7, remains so. ..... This and RE4 are like the peak of third person shooters. Yeah, I've loved Resident Evil since it came out. I still enjoy going back and playing RE1 and RE2, but unless you played them when they were current, I can't imagine trying to play them now. Their controls were wonky even at the time, and now even games with good mechanics at the time are now so dated. But man, I loved me some Resident Evil 2. I played it so much. Probably one of my favorites of all time. And yeah, as I recall RE4 is actually the game that the popularized over-the-shoulder perspective that now permeates and informs basically every single third-person action game ever since. Such a great game. The only one in the main series I didn't like was RE6. I got the demo and disliked it enough I didn't buy it. Ohh, shit! I didn't realize you still hadn't played them. Dude, being a third-person-shooter fan and owning a PS3 there is really no excuse for not playing those games! I know everyone hypes them, and I don't want to add to that, but they really are among the best games on the PS3. The first Uncharted actually looks amazing for a 10 year old game. It has aged very will, I think. You really should keep your eye out for a deal. I think I got the Uncharted 1 and 2 bundle in a $20 two-pack, and TLoU should be pretty cheap to ban used somewhere. Maybe even Amazon or eBay. Marvel and Square Enix (specifically Crystal Dynamics, known for Tomb Raider) just announced that they are going to make multiple games together. Good. I've said before, and I'll say again, I just can't understand why Marvel isn't making more quality games. With the beyond-absurd success and popularity of the MCU and many game developers demonstrating concepts and game mechanics can be well-implemented for the types of games that would suit Marvel (shooters, Shadow of Mordor, Assassins Creed, etc), they are just leaving money on the table.

I tried out the first 2 Uncharted games and the Last of Us at this place near my apartment that lets you play videogames there for a few hours. It's how I judge if I want to buy non-Nintendo games. Was not impressed with any of them. I thought the Tomb Raider reboot had much better controls, gameplay, and level design than either franchise. And watching the movie versions on youtube just made Uncharted feel like a poor Indiana Jones ripoff. The more they make the games like movies the more I'm going to hold the stories to that standard, and I feel that the stories fell flat as well. The Naughty Dog games have convinced me not to buy a Playstation, as almost all the games I would truly want to get are also coming to Steam with better graphics and mouse/keyboard controls.

impulse, I do plan to get Uncharted soon. I did see the first two games together for like $20. Though I don't remember if it was new or used. Not that I haven't had a single issue with any used game I've brought from that shop. At this point I'm totally expecting to be wowed. As this reminds me how friends told me to play Dead Space over and over. I finally downloaded the first one on the 360 when 2 had just come out. The first two are some of the best third person shooters. And DS2 is a top ten game of all time for me. In due time I'll grab that 2-in-1 package of Uncharted.

That's a good start. I mean, yeah, of course, certain gameplay mechanics and elements are dated by modern standards, but since you play and enjoy so many games from that time period already, it probably won't be an issue for you. Not nearly as dated as, say, Resident Evil.

I've seen a few articles saying that the next Deus Ex game might not be released for quite some time because of the Marvel and Tomb Raider games Eidos Montreal are working on. I'm interested in those games, but I really hope Adam Jensen's story is properly wrapped up at some point. There aren't too many "immersive sim" type games out there, so it would be sad to see one of the best series put on hold.

I finally got my RE5 achievement for completing the game on Professional. My son and I started a co-op play of it a few weeks ago and last night we did the last two chapters we had the most trouble with and got the achievement. I went to check my achievements, and my last one from the "Lost in Nightmares" DLC was 3/17/11. Almost 6 years later, I finally got it! :-) Just had to wait for him to grow up and get better than me, so he help me through it.

Nice!
For whatever reason, Arkham Knight finally clicked for me and I got sucked in as opposed to just having something to play. After finally unlocking enough upgrades to make it more competitive, the Batmobile parts got a LOT more tolerable and even somewhat fun, EXCEPT. Except except EXCEPT the last Riddler race challenge. That course can @#$# #$%$ my $$%@#@#$#% all the way until next **&@&$% Tuesday! I did finally beat the course, though. Man, what a pain. If anyone else plays it, I have to admit some advice I read was true - the Batmobile handles MUCH BETTER in first-person mode. I prefer using third-person, but if you are on a tricky course and need handling, just flip it over. After who knows how many tries on that last lap, I flipped and boom, finished it that lap.

My colleague and I recently started playing Boarderlands 2 again. Still a darn great game. I am playing as a siren, a character I have not really played before, and it is taking some practice getting use to but great fun.

We had Borderlands 2 at one time. I think my son traded it with a friend. But I played some with him local co-op and despite it being a FPS, I enjoyed it to a degree. I really like the art style in that game though. The environments, costumes (why I wished it was third person) the vehicles and weapons, were all just so bad ass looking. My son always played Zer0. And of course, on cue, I played the gal; Siren I think? I might like to get the collection of them, just to play real casual, since it's so visually appealing, despite the gameplay being repetitive, to me. Much like most Halo games, since the original.

Adam, remind me, why don't you like FPS? I know you've said before, but I just don't remember.
As for Borderlands, I can't speak for the newer ones, but while I liked two, I didn't care for 1 at all. It emphasized the fetch-quest run back and forth doing the same crap a lot more than 2 which improved it a lot. Maybe save yourself a few bucks? Also did you ever play Bioshock? While it's FPS, it has a lot more of an adventure element and feel of a third person game as opposed to pure FPS. You might like those as a bridge between the two.

It's more the perspective than anything. It just doesn't suit my preference. Kind of like how I prefer my RPGs to be turn based, and have no interest in "action" RPGs. Hell, I've owned Parasite Eve 1 & 2 for almost 20 years and have only played probably 10% of the first game for that reason. Some aspects of video games I just cannot get use to with very rare exceptions; Halo CE, Bioshock (with an exception) and I'm pretty sure Dishonered will be once I get to play more. Maybe I should blow the dust off PE and give the ole gal another shot.
But I feel I get more out of environments, battle, and just feeling more in the game when I can see my character, rather than a perspective that is more realistic. I think FPS can work good for horror (as I hear Alien Trilogy and RE7 do) but there are great horror games that have something along the line of third person that are great too; Dead Space, Silent Hill, RE. I guess I'd rather feel like I'm doing it though an avatar, so to speak, rather than personally doing it, so I go for TPS over FPS.
We got Bioshock on the 360 back in 2010 or so. I've tried a few times to play it, but on the 360 there is no way to play but by the default button setup (I think all you can change is axis and sticks) and it is really difficult for me to keep in mind when playing. It seems so unnatural that combat often takes more out of me than it should. So I get frustrated and give up. But I like Bioshock for every reason I said about Borderlands 2. And as far as a collection, I might just go with 2, if that is the case with 1. Though my son may like it. I guess it'd all depend on the price of either or.

Got it, was curious if it was a control scheme learning curve, etc. Preference is preference, can't argue there.
