I found a shop that claims to provide good repairs for $55.
The deal is I pay $30 for them to perform the repair. If it is fixable (the guy said he successfully repairs nine out of ten) I pay another $25. If it is not repairable I do not get the $30 back. So fingers crossed it is repaired. He says he provides a 30 day warranty so if it fails within 30 days he will repair it again for free, again with the understanding that it has a ten percent chance of not working.
So I'm hoping I get it back and can continue to use it for Hulu and Netflix and play some Call Of Duty on it until I've saved enough for a new system, which is at the top of my priorities right now since I think the PS3 is probably on it's last leg. Won't be buying new games for it, that's for sure. I'll have to research the options and see what I like. I've never owned an XBOX and have always liked the PS3, but Microsoft does have more exclusives, and I'm not sure I'm into Gran Turismo anymore. I still prefer the Sony controller though.

I have yet to play a Metal Gear game. It's nothing against them, just like Halo it's mostly because of an almost exclusive Njntendo gaming lifetime. I have little to no knowledge of them other than espionage shooter game. I might play it at some time but there always seems to interest me better. I don't know if you have a PS3, but if you do you should pick up the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection. It contains everything one would need to immerse themselves in the Metal Gear Solid Universe. I have the majority of the games that come with this, but since I'm such a fan of the franchise I went ahead and got this anyway. Three of the games have updated HD graphics too.

The Last of Us seas phenomenal. Great atmosphere, fantastic and disturbing story. Very well-done. Also, seconded on Metal Gear Solid. Those games are simply amazing.

The Secret World MMO went free-to-play so I decided to check it out and bought a key for $10. It's a decent MMO but very different from other online games since there are no classes or levels. I am enjoying the secret society aspect of the game so far. Also still playing The Last of Us. I didn't realize how scary this game can get. It takes you into some horrible scenarios of which I would rather not be. Not only do you have to watch out for the infected, but also looters and gangs and whatnot. I've never felt more survival tested than this game. Just brilliant. And it's a third person shooter. My favorite kind of shooter game. I may have to check out at some point.

I finally got a PS3 last year for my boys for Christmas. I have played a bit of Borderlands 2 with my oldest son, but I have yet to really use the system yet. When and if I finish Arkham Asylum and City, we've got Origins on the PS3. I do love the interface for netflix on the PS3 as oppose to the Wii. The free online is nice too, as I stopped paying for Xbox live. I'll give Metal Gear a try even if it's a local rental before I make a purchase. I've heard good things about the series but then I did about Halo too and one of the reasons I finally got a 360. Before that I had been a strict Nintendo console buyer, with the exception of my PS1. Not comparing Halo necessarily to Metal Gear, just commenting that I don't always like what's popular.

Haven't played the last Metal Gears (Revengeance I believe? Is that even a word?), but if you want to pick one to try the series, both 1 and 3 are very solid games. Maybe a bit dated graphical by now, but a lot of fun and also doing interesting things with games as a medium.

I loved MGS2. The first one on the PS3 looked nice but was not fun at all. Never played the others, but I heard the new one isn't very good either.

MGS2 was amazing although the story got really out there by the end. It was worth playing for the first level alone, though.

MGS may have been the first game of it's type I ever played. A 3D third person game of any kind. Because of that I was terrible at it. Never made it inside that building on the first level. Kept getting killed outside and eventually gave up. By MGS2 I must have had the hang of it because I beat that game, and I beat very few games. I thought it was a great game. I didn't like part three. I spent all this time crawling around on my belly knifing snakes and adding them to my inventory. I decided to run ahead and see where the bad guys were, when they kill me I'd just start from my save point and know when I'm going to run into them. I ran to the first group of bad guys, killed them all with zero stealth, ran to the second group, was able to just run through that level and avoid them altogether, and after that decided I didn't even want to play anymore. Never tried the fourth.

And I've just spend a few hours trying to get Skyrim not to crash my entire PC. Appearantly there is a 150-page thread on this problem on the Steam forum which I can sum up in 1 sentence: "Son, you SOOL".
Back to Baldur's Gate then till Dragon Age Inquisitor comes out.

Uggghhh. Bethesda games are known for being ludicrously buggy, but Skyrim was supposed to have fixed A LOT of the problems in the engine. What specific problem are you having?

Like I said, crashing my PC. Screen goes black, then PC reboots. Which as bugs go is on the end-scale of severity. Thread on Steam has loads of people with the same problem, different OS, different video cards and no solution. Can try my luck at Bethesda support, but somehow I doubt it will help anything. Luckily it was a Steam Summer Sale so little money lost.

That is odd. Has it happened since you bought the game? Is it only online or while you play the campaign? I couldn't run that game on my PC anyway. I have it on the PS3 though and as far as I could tell there was no multiplayer but I figure that could be different for PC.

Anyways, if you could only play one Metal Gear game, I would suggest Metal Gear Solid for the Playstation. It came out in 1998 and really was ahead for it's time in a lot of areas. The graphics are obviously dated, but the narrative is really engaging. Not as deep as it's immediate sequel, but still enjoyable. Doesn't get as convoluted as the future games in the series will be. The first game is difficult to get an original copy of, but you can buy it on the PS Store for I think less than $10. The Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection just comes with a code so you get the game for free from the PS Store.

Yes we have a chain of stores, Hastings, which sell new and used games, comics, books, music, movies and assorted misc items. They rent games to members. I do it once and a while for the boys, but it's like $7 for three days. So unless I am completely unsure about a new $40 game I might rent it. But if I can download the first Metal Gear, I'll probably just do that once I finished the games I already own that I haven't finished or started (I like to play series of games in order even if isn't required by the story) and I have a few. But believe me, I'll keep it in mind. I've still got Uncharted on my list now that I've got a PS3.
Wish I had backwards compatible PS3 so I could play Shadow of the Colossus. My brother in law highly reccomends it to me based on what he knows I play.
