Well I finally tried Spiderman 4 last night. And it is all the fun they say it is. I started on "friendly" and maybe should have done "very friendly". This old man's reflexes aint what they use to be. Plus the fact that the PS4 controller is way funkier than the PS3 and this is the first time I used it. Or I am just making excuses. But anyway ....
The battle is pretty similar the Rockstar Batman games. But the spider powers make it much more fun. Being able interact with things in the environment during battle and use them against you're enemies to spider sense to other web powers that I haven't even unlocked yet, makes battle a bit less monotonous than it was to me in Batman. At least with your everyday thugs and henchmen.
Opening up the world map is similar to Assassin's Creed and Shadow of Mordor. And unlocking portions of the map also allows Spidey to hear the police band and you can then stop everyday crime just like you could in Spiderman 2 back in the day. Which is my favorite thing to do when I just want to web swing around with no particular agenda. There's also other fetch and find quests that you can do if you want to play off the main story.
Also Spidey is amazingly funny in this. His banter and insults during battle are top notch and just his in general narrative when you are doing whatever is funny. They got a good voice actor to play the part.
And there's a lot of costumes to unlock. Many (looking at my son's game) I don't even have reference for. If one were inclined to purchase a PS4 I would definitely recommend this game. I can already tell it's worth the price tag just from a couple hours of play.

Yeah, it really is a lot of fun. The story is great with the exception of how they portray (mild spoiler) Mary Jane. The city looks great although it is a little shallow. 100% agreed on it basically being Spider-Man skinned Arkham, but that totally works. I wish there was a little more precision with some of the web navigation, specifically point to point and stopping when and where you want, but these are just nitpicks of a fantastic game.

So far all I've met in the story is Doctor Octavius. And did the little (somewhat like Dead Space) hacking puzzle and then went back to free roam before I quit. The web swinging and moving about was a bit off to me too. But I thought that just might be me. Agree that it's a small nitpick but it is your only mode of travel so a bit more precision would be nice. But the way the battling goes, I imagine there was more time and effort put into that aspect than anyone else. Now to just get the symbiote or 2099 costume so I can look badass trying to be badass.

Yeah, swinging should be a bit smoother. There is also that mode where you can aim and shoot a direct line to pull yourself somewhere which is good for landing on walls, roofs, ceilings, specific spots, etc, but it's really picky and selective on when it lets you use it. That and I don't know how many times I've tried to run/climb up and stop at a certain point or land exactly where I want to after slinging. That aspect is not as smooth as I wanted, but it is perfectly manageable for how cool the game is. Yeah, there are a ton of costumes. I don't know if all are from the comics or not. A lot seem like filler, honestly, but there are some cool ones. I mostly find myself switching between the classic one and (just in case) Raimi movie costume.

Mild spoiler on the suits you might find interesting, Adam. I can confirm the 2099 suit is in the game because I just got it last night, and it looks REALLY cool in the game. I daresay cooler than the comics. It's probably my favorite aside from the classic or Raimi suits.

It's been a while. I have since finished the VERY cool story in Spider-Man. There is still plenty of stuff to do, but eh, I just don't care about 100%ing this one. I might go back if I feel like swinging through the city and stopping some robberies as Spider-Man.
I've started playing Shadow of War (sequel to Lord of the Rings Shadow of Mordor). So far, it's very similar to the last game, maybe a little too similar, but more. It's still a lot of fun to sneak around Middle-Earth slaugthering orcs, though, so I am really enjoying it.

My son said the ending was sad. I said did Aunt May die and he said yeah. I pulled out Amazing #400 to show him when it happened in the comics.[/spoilers] I haven't played that far into the game, but I'n kind of sad to think that is ahead in my gameplay.
Also Shadow of Mordor's start had me super pissed at that [spoilers]POS that kills his wife and child[/spoilers] but I have yet to complete the game itself.

My son said the ending was sad. Yeah, it is, but it's a really story moment. It's kind of an iconic with great power comes great responsibility equivalent moment. It's pretty powerful.
Regarding Shadow of Mordor, do I correctly recall you saying you had it on XBOX360 or PS3, and those systems did not have the power to preserve the Nemesis system? If so, I highly recommend scooping it up on sale for your PS4 because the Nemesis system is the best part of the game. Always a fun one to get back to. I wish there were more quality Lord of the Rings games out there.

As far as the Nemesis system ... you mean where when you kill captains or ranked Orcs, another takes it place? If so yeah that is a feature on the 360 version.

I looked it up because I forgot the details. It looks like the 360 and PS3 had a more limited version because it did not have the power to run all the AI that was on the PS4 and XBO versions, but it was present.

There are more than a few remasters coming to the switch that I'm excited for but this just might be the best of the bunch:
Link's awakening was my introduction to the Zelda franchise; I spent so many hours playing that on my gameboy(not even in color!) as a kid and I can't wait to explore it again.

Had been eyeballing this online for some time now, but really couldn't justify paying $20 for it. I came across one of them at a second hand store for $8 and scooped it up. I'm glad I did Has numerous iterations of Pac-Man (Super, Plus, & Pal, 256, and Original). It also has Mappy, New Rally-X, Bosconian, Xevious, Dig-Dug, Galaga, and Galaxian. The controller is also fairly top notch and feels sturdy and arcade-like, same with the buttons. My only real complaint with the console is that there's no Ms Pacman when she's been a staple in numerous other plug n plays for years

The exact same for me. As for other switch games I am looking forward to Marvel ultimate alliance 3 and whatever the new pokemon game ends up being are at the top.

I still wish Nintendo would, and my interest in the Nintendo Switch is linked to, go all-in on retro gaming. I think the hybrid console/portable makes it an ideal platform for folks who grew up on NES/SNES/N64/GC games who now have jobs and disposable income. You could take it on commutes, business trips, just in the other room when kids take over TV, etc. Their minimal release with their online is far too little too late.
I mean, they are shattering sales expectations and blowing it out of the water, so clearly I am not their target audience and they don't need my money, but if they seriously amp up their retro offerings they would be a lot more likely to get it.
