I know the 4 stories in this book were supposed to be 4 separate mini series that got repackaged into this 96 paged anthology. Possibly because of Rebirth?
Anyway I couldn't resist a big thick book at $7.99. You get 4 issues worth of story for the price of 2 (@$3.99) or less than the price of 3 (@$2.99). I know they used the name to get a boost from the CW TV show but the traditionalist in me wished for a title like Adventure Comics or Brave & the Bold.
I know anthologies don't sell well anymore but I loved the 4 stories. Firestorm is obviously the headliner. And Metamorpho & Metal Men are fun offbeat concepts that could have only been created in the 60's. I loved the 3 stories starring them. The Sugar & Spike story with them as adult detectives? Still not sure about it.

I love Legends of Tomorrow #1 and I didn't care for the Sugar & Spike story at all. For them being Adult Detectives is a little too much for me; and that's why I don't like it at all.

I did pick up a copy, mostly out of a morbid curiosity as to how bad the Sugar & Spike story could be. And. . .
um. . .
Okay, I liked it. It's actually my favorite story of the book. The other 3 are all pretty standard 'new beginning' super-doer stories (though the Metamorpho one is off to a really slow start). They were enjoyable, but I don't know if I'd pick up any as a regular series. But Sugar & Spike worked. It was played just straight enough to offset the inherent silliness, their personalities were basically true to the originals, and it was fun. Not fun in a Squirrel Girl kind of way, but entertaining. And while it's not a reboot of the original (which is just as well; I can't think of anybody I'd trust to attempt that) it does work as a reimagining. The original was about two babies, bossy Sugar and not-that-bright Spike, trying to make sense of the adult world around them. These two are normal humans trying to make their way in a super-human world. Outsiders, working together and relying on each other, just like in the old days. It kinda works, and I want to see more.

It looked like it might be good, but that price tag is too high for me (especially with the current US/Canada exchange rate).

Hm, may check this out digitally but the price tag is still a bit intimidating. Conway, Giffen, and Wein would be the big draws for me. I've never been that big a fan of Firestorm though. Metal Men, as with Doom Patrol, is one of those kooky cool concepts but it depends on how they are portrayed and used.
You mentioned anthologies and Brave & the Bold. Made think of and miss the relaunch of that title back in '07 by Waid and Perez. How the ongoing story arc weaved throughout the follow-up issues dictating the next match-ups was very good.

The collected editions will separate out the series at $14.99 SRP. It looks like the anthology series will make it to at least issue #6.

Well each of the component parts was originally scheduled as 6 issue mini series, so 6 issues make sense, as that's the material they had in hand and/or contracted. I highly doubt you will see an issue 7 though, or if you do, it won't be the same 4 features comprising it. -M

Finally got to the first issue.. nothing particular Earth-shattering, but a feel liking have these in one book for $7.99 is worth it far more than 4 separate 2.99 issues would have been... I'll probably get the rest to support the format (which I like alot) until it takes a real turn for the worse.

Just read #2. Still enjoying this format. Liked The Metamorpho & Metal Men chapters the most in this issue.

Finished #6. I really loved the format. Overall I ended up enjoying Sugar & Spike the most! Metamorpho & Metal Men felt like I was 6 again reading comics (a good thing). Firestorm was average. It wasn't bad it just was underwhelming IMO.

I got # 6 for the Supergirl appearance: fun book. Certainly worth keeping an eye out for looking through the back issue bins and cheap boxes, but way too expensive for me to add to my already bloated pull list.
