Another bloody and cowardly terrorist attack, this time in Brussels.
I try not to despair of humanity. The perpetrators of this heinous act are not representative of what a human being is. They are the worst of what it can be, what most of us try not to be : hateful, cowardly, violent, intolerant, self-centered and unintelligent.
My thoughts to all those who work hard to rise above the morass of cruelty and darkness that these brutes try to plunge us in, and to their innocent victims.

It continues to amaze me the depths of cowardice, intolerance, and downright stupidity that people are capable of. They get so intoxicated by the twisted shadow of a peaceful religion that blowing themselves up to kill people who've never done anything to them or anyone else sounds like a good and noble idea.
And I just know that other hate-mongers, like Trump, will use this as an excuse to further inflame his idiot followers.

I spoke to my son this morning and he was very very distraught. His on-again, off-again girlfriend was supposed to be on the metro in Brussels on her way to meet him in the U.K. for spring break. Luckily her father flaked and didn't get her ticket. By the time I spoke to him he had talked to her and calmed down a lot.
My heart goes out to the people of Belgium.

Kind of at a loss for words here, I want to say something, but I don't know what.
As I understand it, over 30 people have been reported dead, with many dozens more injured.
I just find it difficult to fathom how someone could be led to such acts of insanity. Belgium was already in the second highest state of alert these past couple of days, coming on top of the Abdeslam case. So that makes it all the more bitter that these bombers managed to slip through in spite of the elevated vigilance of police and military.
Very black day.

I heard this Mormel ... and I just feel the pain that the whole country of Belgium is going through and I have a dear friend that's visiting that country right now and I haven't heard from him yet. I sent him an e-mail and he hasn't responded to it. And, he's in Brussels and that's the scary part ... He's due in London this Friday. |

Update on my friend
He cancelled two appointments in Brussels and decided to go to London (he's on standby) today and the airline promised him that they will find a flight for him to go to London in 12 hours or less and he's taking a short holiday in London and make his appointments on Friday and Monday and come back home on Tuesday. He is safe and shocked about the bombing in Brussels and sadden to see nearly three dozens deaths and the terror that the bombers did so suddenly without any warning whatsoever. My friend is an international banker and handle affairs of various companies that hired him.

If he can't get a flight from Brussels to London, the trainride from Brussels to London is about 2 hours (but I guess that one will be overbooked by now as well). He already got a flight to London about 5 hours later and he was grateful that he got on it. So, today he is taking it easy and decided to visit Churchill War Room and see Imperial Museum later on and then prepare for his meeting on Friday and Monday and he told me that his flight from London to Boston and then back home to Seattle has been confirmed and he's flying the red eye flight to Boston and should be home (he has a two lay over in Boston) before coming home. |

So hey guys.. My luck continues : I was last monday on a plane from sweden on my way to Brussels!!! Well, I guess I was lucky since I was scheduled to arrive a little after the attacks. Got blocked in the air for a good extra hour before we found a new destination. I was supposed to celebrate my birthday there on the 22nd with a bunch of friends gathering for he event, and appart from the two ocals, all the others had to cancel... It was such a sad time that I had to get away asap, which wasn't the easiest thing. Eventually, I got my ass to Paris for a few days, mostly spent buying comics, charcuterie and oblivion... I managed to get home yesterday, but the contrasts of my little forest island with the outside wold is becoming increasingly eerie...

Children murdered by gutless cowards who loudly proclaim their intention to kill as many people as necessary until their dream of an intolerant and repressive society becomes real. It almost make me wish I was religious so I could take comfort in knowing these monsters are going to burn in hell for all eternity.
A Pakistani father said " nobody should have to bury their son". I think there is no sadder reality than that of a parent losing their child. What ideology can be worth that? Don't fanatics have families, too?
