This is probably, in my opinion, the most consistently great book that IDW is putting out right now (and it helps that Eastman is also working on it). It takes everything that made the first two cartoon adaptations, the 1990 film, and original Mirage books so great and blends them together into a fine, heady malt of ninjutsu, eastern philosophy, mutagenic shenanigans, and otherworldly terrors

Ugh, I need to catch up on this. I bought the first two trades of the series awhile back along with the first trade of the micro miniseries and liked all of it. Eastman working on it is certainly a big draw and I like how it's not a complete re-hash of what's come before. Instead they've taken risks and challenges in pushing the brothers into new directions. (The story of Leo breaking away from them, possibly working with the Foot Clan if I remember right, that seems like it'd be a terrific story).

They've really built the whole IDW Turtle-Verse into something great.
Not only has the main book been strong, all the mini-series have been great reads too.

Does it follow any previous continuity from Mirage?

Does it follow any previous continuity from Mirage? No, it starts completely fresh with a brand new origin, but it does incorporate various elements from all the different iterations of the property from over the years. It is however, very similar in tone to the original comics and the 2003 animated series
