I'm in the minority here liking Wildcats vol. 1. Yes it was easily Travis Charest art that caught my eye (#17 was my first issue) but is there anyone that doesn't like Charest art?
But I stuck with it from begining to end, and I enjoyed it overall. Initially it was very "Image" or very "90's" as far as Charest or Lee doing the art with Brandon Choi and Lee doing the writing. The latter issues delved into the characters more as different writers got a chance to do their take on the team. Though I do remember Choi getting better with the writing when he concluded the series. There's a low spot to me, that's around Robinson and Moore's run but that's more due to me not liking the direction the story went more than their actual skill at writing. That's the best I can summarize it without spoiling anything if you choose to read it.
#0-9 Choi/Lee writers
Charest/Lee/Portacio (another favorite of mine)
#10-13 Claremont writer
Lee/Booth/Charest
#14-20 James Robinson
Charest mostly with a few fill ins
#21-35
Moore
varying artists but mostly with Charest and Dave Johnson
#36-50 a few fill in writers but mostly Choi again
varying artists with big chunks of Mat Broome and Ed Benes
Wildcats Vol 2 starts off with Scott Lobdell writing and Charest doing a few issues before he disappeared for whatever reason. The Joe Casey and Sean Phillips starts with issue #8. And while Casey is great I am not a fan of Phillips. And I'm perfectly fine admitting that it is probably the lack of Charest not sticking with the series like I had hoped when it came out. But stories are fine.
Can't say much about Wildcats Vol 3 (or 4 depending on your source) as I have never read any of it.
