Hey! Why no option for his run on Marvel's Star Wars comic? Somewhere, a 6 foot tall, green, carnivorous space bunny is crying.

Know, o prince, that between the years he wrote the Avengers and the rise of the All-star squadron, there was an age undreamed of. Hither came Roy Thomas, whose vision of Conan would trample all other comic-book runs under its sandaled feet.
Or it would have, if visions wore sandals. Which they don't. Because Vision wears yellow boots.

Hey, all props to Roy for his awesome Conan run, but for me it has to be Avengers. My favorite superhero run of all time, and one I would stack up against any other superhero run ever. And in terms of creativity and legacy, I think the nine month period he had from Avengers #52-60 is right up there with the best, even (*gasp*) with Stan and Jack. Yeah, I'd be okay with calling that the peak of Avengers. But I'm rereading his run and there's a lot more Sal and a lot less John than I remember and the not-John not-Neat Adams stuff is generally uninspired. Of the choices I'd probably have to vote Conan, just based on the handful of issues that I read. Although I might go with the Superman/Captain Marvel cycle of issues in DC Comics Presents (33 & 34, 49 and Annual # 3.) Roy's always elevated by top-tier artists, and here he's working with Buckler and Gil Kane. All killer/no filler! Plus the reintroduction of Hoppy the Marvel Bunny after 40-some-odd years. (Ish. Depending on how you view Happy the Magic Bunny.)

I haven't read a lot of Roy Thomas's work--just mostly his Silver Age Marvel superhero stuff--X-Men, Avengers, Sub-Mariner, which I loved. Here I voted for Thomas's X-Men, specifically for the famous run with Adams--such a great pairing of talents. They really elevated the book; to this day I remember the shock I felt when the comic was canceled.

All-Star Squadron is the only complete run on anything by RT that I've read(just finished re-reading the whole thing, actually). If you ever do a thread on 'Roy Thomas's weakest work', I go with Justice League of America #s 219-220, that Black Canary retcon 2 years before Crisis.

It fairly neatly solved what was by then an obvious continuity problem. And it brought back the evil Johnny Thunder, who I thought had a lot of untapped potential.

I find it interesting that while All Star Squadron is getting love, The Invaders book doesn't have one vote. Maybe it's because of the poor artwork in the Invaders run.

I loved Invaders but All Star Squadron had better art plus it had almost every DC Golden Age hero in it at some point. Also I like DC's Golden Age more than Marvel's Golden Age.

Invaders is a series I've long wanted to try. The basic premise sounds interesting and I like the characters, but the artwork has always prevented me from taking the plunge.

Yeah, beyond the 'Big 3' in the Invaders, the rest of the Timely/Marvel crowd was, to put it kindly, 'B list' material.

His run with Buscema on Conan is probably only 2nd to Alan Moore's take on Swamp Thing as my favorite run in comics history.

The artwork is quite terrible.
