how in world that Newsarama worth 2.27 Million and Bleeding Cool worth 2.29 Million that Action Ace reported it on page 2? I assume it's based both upon past revenue from advertisers and also capacity for potential future earnings. I don't know what advertisers pay per view/click, but sites like the ones you mentioned get hundreds of thousands of clicks each day. That adds up. Even at one cent per ten views, that adds up.

I just read these three pages and I'm really confused of how much these websites worth and I go through these two (Newsarama and Bleeding Cool) sites on a daily basis and I want someone here tell how in world that Newsarama worth 2.27 Million and Bleeding Cool worth 2.29 Million that Action Ace reported it on page 2? Even the article itself points out that the estimations are pretty bogus so I wouldn't worry about it.

My old car forum had over 100,000 members, sponsored subforums, ad revenue, and was incredibly active, I'd say two or three times more active than CBR ever was in the 8 years or so I've known about it, and it sold for about 40 grand according to the founder. He did not have a media section, but there was a lot of technical information and it seemed like at any given time 600 or so guests were visiting the forums, and they had even more advertising to deal with.

It's all (educated?) guesswork based on the amount of internet traffic, the number of unique visitors and a degree of assumptions over the disposable income of the visitors and model(s) of the monetisation capability of websites by advertising or subscriptions.

Most of CBR visitors will never go to the forums though. I think the forum part is completely uninteresting to the buyers (probably as uninteresting as it was to Jonah himself) and it is the main website that is the draw. Still the price named seems incredibly high for what it is.

Shaxper and thwhtguardian,
I have been thinking of this and I contacted a dear friend of mine and he heard about the sale of CBR and I asked him how in the world that Bleeding Cool and others are worth so much and explained to me of which I had some ideas of how it's works and all and it's now makes some sense to me. I think it more like an educated guess and I feel that these websites that Action Ace posted earlier are a bit over-inflated to me and that's how I look at it. It's very interesting to learn this and this thread is an enlightening one indeed.

Hey guys.
It will be interesting to see if the forums on CBR stay around once Valnet really starts making changes. Most of their other sites such as ScreenRant don't have forums just comments on articles.
As for the web traffic, as others stated, the forums were not the main source of page views for the whole site. The Main site and the blogs made up the majority of the traffic and ad money. I believe the whole site had an average of 6 million unique monthly visitors.

Well, if Valnet shuts down or significantly hampers the forums, we can always welcome those folk here. It wouldn't be the first time we'd served as a home to CBR refugees And, while our modern comics section isn't anywhere near as intricate as what they have over at CBR, it's only because our users aren't bringing that kind of content as of yet. More folks producing more conversation in that section would necessitate further expansion / development. We'll always be a classic comic forum, first and foremost, but we have room to grow into other areas as well. At any rate, if this becomes a real concern over at CBR, our arms are open and you have my ear.

If CBR shuts down their forums, I fear the ensuing influx of the unwashed refugee masses into our area. Can they even speak our language? Are they crossing the borders just to avail themselves of our knowledge? Will we be inundated by tactless twitterings praising Liefeld, Deadpool, Squirrel Girl and others of that ilk.
I say CCF brethren that we should prepare now for this onslaught. Mandatory testing on classic comic familiarity. Build walls around our borders to stop illegal sign-ups. Make Jonah pay for the walls-it will be his fault and he has the money now. Protect the purity of CCF. Hail Shaxper!!!

The thing is there isn't a huge amount of money needed to run the forum. The mod staff is volunteer. There were server costs. But most of the "costs" were man-hours from Jonah and his tech team to keep the forum running and solve problems that came up.
So you could look at the time needed to keep the forums running as taking away from the more profitable main site.

Pretty much the only comics I've read the last couple of years are the first two Squirrel Girl TPBs & the first TPB of the most recent She-Hulk series.

I hope the Hellboy forum survives. I don't really visit the other subforums anymore, but I like the HB fan community.
