Speaking of Ghost Rider, how do you folks feel about Spawn? Because it was initially pitched (or so I've heard) as Ghost Rider, but with deeper lore This probably is for another topic, I'd really like to see that topic!

I really liked the original run, particularly the early 80s stuff, Yes, this era was the best Ghost Rider stuff in my opinion. Around #63 or so (going by memory here) Johnny Blaze joined the circus. I thought from that point until the end of the series with #81, the stories were very strong. I agree. I particularly remember the Steel Wind story, the one where he fought the Circus of Crime, and the one with the Freakmaster. Some very strong stuff there, I thought.

Oh, and the whole Zarathos concept (bleep)s mightily. I liked Ghost Rider just being Johnny. I also enjoyed the 90s relaunch. Mackie and Texeria got off to a strong start with Danny Ketch. You wouldn't think it'd be possible to improve on the original visual image but man, if Tex didn't succeed in doing it. His art was a huge reason I think for the title's initial success. I second the 90's relaunch. It was a darker version of Ghost Rider and the story was pretty good. Tex's art wasn't bad either.

I was aware oh ghost rider as a kid and loved his look but knew nothing about his comics and didn't have any. That I recal. Certainly didn't read them if I did. But I did buy a couple GR motorcycle toys cause how cool he looked. When the 90s reboot came out I jumped on it and personally really liked it at the time but I remember my interest lessened near the end. Pretty sure I have the whole run. Haven't revisited any of it since, so I might think less of it now.

I know I read some of the Garth Ennis GR stuff but I am drawing a complete blank on anything story related.
I suppose either I've consumed too much other media since then, or it wasn't too memorable.

GR is kind of a unique character. I passed on the 90's version but the Midnight Sons looked kind of interesting. This is a Marvel character that could be pretty cool. Totally schtick, but I loved that Art Adams cover on the FF where GR, Wolvie, grey Hulk and Spidey are the new FF

I like Ghost Rider. Of the two main Ghost Riders (though I also liked the recent series with art by Moore), I think Johnny has the better personality and origin (stuntman and "making a deal with the devil to save a loved one, but be tricked" work pretty well) compared to Danny Ketch (who was a bit of an every man in personality and had nothing to make him stand apart from the dozens of Peter Parker wannabe's. Also his origin was literally "found a magic bike in the trash.") OTOH I like the Danny Ketch Ghost Rider far more than the Johnny Blaze one (as seemed to have most artists as most adaptions and later versions use the 90s look and the chain and Penance Stare to his arsenal.)

Ah..Ghost Rider. He's always been like a third tier character to me. However, I recently picked up Essential Ghost Rider(volume 3) and am really enjoying those stories from the early 80's. A simpler time in comics without super complex story lines and "continuity" issues. Just a guy with a flaming demon alter ego jamming through the desert and running into characters like Water Wizard, Jester, Tatterdemalion and Werewolf by Night. Just pure comic fun. The way that comics should be. Really enjoying this "blast from the past."

A lot of rumors lately that Marvel and Netflix are about to green light a series for Ghost Rider as well as series for Moon Knight and Blade.
