Sounds like this is going to start releasing by next month.
Midtown already has the 2nd issue displayed on the website and it has a 2/22/2017 release date.

I like "event" comics (stand alone projects) like this i.e. DC Challenge, Wednesday Comics, Batman : Black and White
I'll support things like this

This is a good reminder that I need to pick up some Kamandi issues.
Alas, I have not read any.

This is a good reminder that I need to pick up some Kamandi issues. Alas, I have not read any. Kamandi #7 is one of the greatest comics ever! If you do pick up a few issues of Kamandi, I suggest getting two to four consecutive issues. When I was collecting Kamandi, there were issues I didn't really like that much until later, after I had read the an issue or two preceding them. In Kirby's Kamandi, the art is such a major focus, with big panels, double-page spreads and numerous splash pages. Several of the done-in-one stories are great! But sometimes you only get a fraction of a story and it's a little unsatisfying.

Comixology has them for 99 cents a pop.

If you read it and thinks it's AWFUL, then you're probably pretty safe ignoring my more off-the-wall recommendations.

I haven't seen anyone else mention DC's spiritual successor to the 80's DC Challenge in the What Have You Read Lately thread, celebrating Jack Kirby's 100th birthday with Kamandi Challenge. Like the aforementioned DC Challenge, it has a round robin of creators with a different creative team each issue. It's been a fun read, and similar to the excellent Kamandi feature in Wednesday Comics from a few years back. I'd be surprised if someone picked this up and didn't like. Lots of rollicking Kirby fun with a 2017 twist. I'm excited that it will be exploring Earth-51 ( "Earth-Kirby" ). As you can see, besides Kamandi, we'll also be getting some New Gods, O.M.A.C., and whoever the lady is on the right in blue. The creative roster includes Dan Didio, Keith Giffen & Scott Koblish Dan Abnett and Dale Eaglesham Peter J. Tomasi and Neal Adams Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti James Tynion IV and Carlos D’Anda Bill Willingham and Ivan Reis Steve Orlando and Philip Tan Marguerite Bennett and Dan Jurgens Keith Giffen and Steve Rude Tom King and Kevin Eastman Greg Pak and Joe Prado Rob Williams and Walter Simonson Gail Simone and Ryan Sook Len Wein and José Luis García-López

I got the first two issues and they were quite fun, exciting adventure with some great art. I haven't read much of the original Kamandi title so that may be part of it, I have nothing to compare it against for the most part. But you can tell the respect and admiration these creators have for Kirby and this creation.
I also like the final page, where last issue's writer informs you about how they would have solved their own cliffhanger from the previous issue. It provides a neat contrast for how that cliffhanger was actually resolved by the current writer.

One reason I think Kamandi is so perfectly suited for a round-robin is that the original series really was 'one damn thing after another' as the cast randomly meandered around.
