#27 Michigan J. Frog Created By: Looney TunesFrom WikipediaMichigan J. Frog is an animated cartoon character who debuted in the Merrie Melodies cartoon One Froggy Evening (December 31, 1955), written by Michael Maltese and directed by Chuck Jones. In this cartoon, Michigan is a male frog who wears a top hat, carries a cane, sings pop music, ragtime, Tin Pan Alley hits, and other songs from the late 19th and early 20th century while dancing and performing acrobatics in the style of early 20th century vaudeville. My Personal ThoughtsThis character was a pure genius on the part of Looney Tunes Productions and the program is very simple indeed a Man finds a frog and look it over and put on a Top Hat and the Frog comes to life full of animated spirit and starts singing and dancing away and the Man looks it over and have Millions and Millions of Dollars coming in his head full of anticipation of a quick get rich scheme. I just loved this character and he was one of the most delightful character that Looney Tunes invented and that immortal "Hello My Baby" was an instant hit and always warms my heart. Hello My Baby You TubeFrom WikipediaWhen the WB Television Network ceased broadcasting and signed off the air for the final time on September 17, 2006, a white silhouette of the Michigan appeared at the end of a montage of stars that appeared on the network during its 11-year history. When the montage ended with "Thank You", Michigan's silhouette is shown removing his top hat and bowing to thank the audience for 11 years, bringing The WB to a close, and later bringing The CW Network the following day, September 18, 2006. From Me: I remember this day like it was yesterday and it was one of my sad days when WB Television Network signed off and it was appropriate for this network to use Michigan's likeness in form of a silhouette to sign off to a close on 9/18/2006. One of the very first thing I did was to watch that You Tube above you in remembering of this warm and likable frog that warms my heart and gave me happiness of singing and dancing that reminded me of Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, James Cagney, and others fine Hollywood Stars of the Past. Here's another great cartoon showcasing Michigan J. FrogAnother Froggy EveningFrom Me: This is my favorite CARTOON starring Michigan J. Frog and it's a classic and one of the most funniest one yet! I was laughing so hard when I watch it twice yesterday and it's one of the best there is.

#26 Minnie Mouse Created By: Walt Disney ProductionsAlso Credited Ub Iwerks who assisted Walt Disney in creating her From WikipediaMinerva "Minnie" Mouse is a funny animal cartoon character created by Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney. She was first drawn by Iwerks in 1928, as was Mickey Mouse. The comic strip story "The Gleam" (published January 19–May 2, 1942) by Merrill De Maris and Floyd Gottfredson first gave her full name as Minerva Mouse, although this is seldom used. My Personal ThoughtsShe is a sweetheart to Mickey and millions and millions of fans across the United States and on a personal note back in the mid-90's when my two nieces are in Middle School and my Mom and Dad took them to Disneyland and I tag along with them as well so my Parents can rest while I handle my two energetic teenage nieces that wants to go to Disneyland and the first person that they wanted to see is Minnie Mouse that was standing at the center of Disneyland of where Adventureland is on your left and Tomorrowland is on your right and I took two pictures of my nieces with their Grandparents with Minnie in the center with Cinderella Castle in the background. I had a fun filled 3 days with them in Disneyland when they were off on Spring Break and seeing Minnie Mouse was the highlights of their trip. Minnie Mouse is the girlfriend of Mickey Mouse and a dear friend to Daisy Duck as well and I hate to admit this that I feel bad leaving out Clarabelle Cow who is a friend to Minnie Mouse. My nieces loved Clarabelle Cow and they were disappointed not seeing her in Disneyland. Clarabelle CowFrom WikipediaIn 1928, Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks created Mickey Mouse to act as a replacement to his previous star Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. But Mickey could not fill the void alone. Among the few consistent character traits Oswald had developed before moving on to Universal Studios was his near-constant pursuit of potential sweethearts. So for Mickey to have a chance to emulate his predecessor at flirting, someone had to replace Oswald's many love interests. My Personal ThoughtsI think it was one of the most unique character that they created because she was created back in 1928 - I learned from my nieces that Minnie Mouse was created and designed in a flapper girl image because back then our society was in the Roaring Twenties and that's what Walt and Ub had in mind for her. I did not know that until my nieces informed me of this while we having lunch together at their home while I was babysitting with them when they were 8 and 10 years of age. Anyway, she is at #26 and I'm at the halfway mark in my countdown here. My favorite Minnie Mouse Cartoon - First Aiders - Pluto was the Star and Minnie was the backup. My Nieces favorite Cartoon - Purple Pluto

I'm going to resume this thread on June 1st to wrap this up in the month of June starting with #25 and working my way down to #1. I'm going to take a little breather from this thread so that I can go through my boxes of Comic Books and start getting rid of potentially going down from 5,500 plus down to a more manageable 300-500 CB and drive to Vancouver BC to dispose them for an undisclosed amount of monies. Sorry Everyone.

#25 Snoopy and Woodstock Created by: Charles M. Schulz. From Wikipedia - SnoopySnoopy is Charlie Brown's pet beagle in the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz. He can also be found in all of the Peanuts movies and television specials, like The Peanuts Movie. Since his debut on October 4, 1950, Snoopy has become one of the most recognizable and iconic characters in the comic strip. The original drawings of Snoopy were inspired by Spike, one of Schulz's childhood dogs. From Wikipedia - WoodstockSchulz did not give him a name until June 22, 1970. Schulz acknowledged in several print and TV interviews in the mid-1970s that he took Woodstock’s name from the rock festival. (The festival’s logo shows a bird perched on a guitar.) Woodstock Concert LogoSnoopy and WoodstockMy Personal ThoughtsOf all the Peanuts characters - I loved this combination of Snoopy and Woodstock together and they brought great joy and they were paired up just beautifully together. They had everything going for them and they were very creative, full of imagination, and one the greatest thing about Snoopy is his adventures against the Red Baron and Woodstock was his mechanic and that brought me great joy reading Schulz's comic strip and again in his adventures in animated form. Woodstock is a character that doesn't say much but he is loyal to Snoopy and was a loyal sidekick that brought out the best of Snoopy. Snoopy is the only Peanut's character that understand Woodstock and that's why they were best friends for life. You just can't say Snoopy without saying Woodstock. These two remains inseparable. Snoopy doesn't talk much neither and to me - they were very visually oriented character and me being severe hard of hearing and can't hear much in the early days of Peanuts Animation they brought lots of joy watching them doing their stuff and that's why I had a hard time placing them in this 50 of the best animated cartoon characters and when Peanuts came on Television of which they rarely do - my whole family watch it together. One more thing about Woodstock that I wanted to share here - he's a skilled woodcarver! Regarding Snoopy's Doghouse - it's quite versatile and even doubled as an World War I fighter plane!

#24 Woody Woodpecker Created By: Walter Lantz ProductionsFrom WikipediaWoody Woodpecker is an anthropomorphic animated pileated woodpecker who appeared in theatrical short films produced by the Walter Lantz animation studio and distributed by Universal Pictures ... Woody was created in 1940 by Lantz and storyboard artist Ben "Bugs" Hardaway, who had previously laid the groundwork for two other screwball characters, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Woody Woodpecker cartoons were first broadcast on television in 1957 under the title The Woody Woodpecker Show, which featured Lantz cartoons book-ended by new footage of Woody and live-action footage of Lantz. Woody has a motion picture star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on 7000 Hollywood Boulevard. He also made a cameo alongside many other famous cartoon characters in the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. From Me: I did not know that he made a cameo in the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. My Personal ThoughtsHe has the most memorable laugh that always leave a smile on my face and probably the most wackiest cartoon character ever graced in Television History. This cartoon is a favorite one in my family and pretty much all of us on a Saturday Morning take a half hour breather from doing our weekly chores to watch this cartoon together. Best Laugh of Woody Woodpecker! He was a pioneer in wacky cartoon characters and one of the most popular of all times and I was very sad to place him this low in the ranking and having said that I had a hard time placing this crazy woodpecker that seems to get on everybody nerves when he meets in the world of animated cartoons. My memory isn't all that good, but the problems is that he wasn't on television that much and did not get in the syndication market after his cartoon series that was started in 1957. According to my sources that he wasn't popular with the girls and very popular with the guys and it's bothers me a lot back then. I don't know that my sources are correct or not - but I was told of that and sad to say that my sources are long gone by then. His crackling laugh, his joy of mischievous activities, his goofiness, and his boundless craziness that left me in greater appreciation of screwball animated fun. I just loved this woodpecker, don't you? Here is my favorite cartoon ... see it for yourself! ... Redwood Sap!

Snoopy, of course, is awesome. One of my heroes. I love the way he seems to have it more together than most of the humans. Joe Cool, indeed! One of the things (mostly from the comic strip) that I loved is the way his dog house seems to be like Doctor Who's Tardis - much bigger on the inside than on the outside, and he'd pull whatever he needs out of there.
Woody Woodpecker, another favorite of mine. To quote a line from Seinfeld "What is he, an instigator" Woody Woodpecker was the first thing I'd watch on Saturday mornings, as it came on at 6 AM (or was it 6:30?) where I was.

#23 Hong Kong Phooey Created By: Hanna Barbara ProductionsFrom WikipediaIt was a parody of kung fu shows and movies of the time. The main character, Hong Kong Phooey himself, is the clownishly clumsy secret identity of Penrod "Penry" Pooch, working at a police station as a "mild-mannered" janitor under the glare of Sergeant Flint ("Sarge"). He fights crime relying on his copy of The Hong Kong Book of Kung Fu, a correspondence-course martial-arts instruction handbook. However, his successes are only either thanks to Spot, who provides a solution to the challenges, or the direct result of a comically unintended side effect of his conscious efforts. SpotHong Kong PhooeyMy Personal ThoughtsEvery time I watch this cartoon on any given Saturday Morning when I can - I always get a big kick of the funny animated cartoon that took homage to the various Kung-Fu Shows that were popular back then. I liked the idea of a dog as a Superhero with a cat as a Sidekick of which every time I watch it; the Cat named Spot stole the show saving Hong Kong Phooey every time he goes out as a crime busting superhero that needed a manual of how to fight crime in the most dire situations that made me laughed in a good way possible. I was sad to see this cartoon did not have the longevity because many groups were opposing the violence of Kung Fu related shows and that's one of the problems back then. Kung Fu starring David Carradine and the Green Hornet starring Van Williams and Bruce Lee only were on for 3 seasons and 1 season only. I certainly enjoyed these shows and my family had mixed feelings about them. I was allowed to watch Batman - but not Green Hornet because my Parents did not want me to be exposed to Bruce Lee and having said that - they did not care for the silliness and the Kung Fu style of Hong Kong Phooey either. So I had problems ranking this show and one time I even place it as high as #18 but after thinking about for some time - it's eventually dropped down to #23 in this countdown. I just loved the animation the special effects and the wackiness that this show brought on to me. I was able to watch this entire series when I moved out of my parents house and it's was on Saturday Afternoon on one of my local television stations and it was a joy watching then.

I love that Hong Kong Phooey theme song! Even though I hadn't heard it in over a decade, it still pops into my head every once in a while.
