I'll take a "fill-in" by The Dude any day of the week.

I'll take a "fill-in" by The Dude any day of the week. Definitely Just a little disheartening that we're seeing a fill-in by the 3rd issue.

I don't buy new comics, so I'll pick up the trade when it comes. But I'd rather see the team take the time necessary to make the book great than put out half-assed work. And again...it's hard to moan about a story by Steve The Dude Rude. And after having read their Flash Gordon I'll definitely give this team the benefit of any doubt.

Reading between the lines, I would guess something like Shaner having deadline issues for whatever reason. Rude is notoriously slow (one of the reasons NExus was bi-monthly while he did the book), so getting a half issue fill in form him on the fly plus the delay on #2 likely means Shaner has been having trouble for a bit. That is unfortunate, and I'm with Slam, long term I'd rather wait and get the stuff form Parker and Doc with an occasional fill in or chapter by Rude, but I get they need to get the product out on a schedule too and fill ins that have one-off world/cast building stories by Parker and other artists seems an okay way to do it.
I also wonder if the passing of Darwyn Cooke has anything to do with the delays, as Darwyn was heavily involved in the design of the series early on, and there may have been plans for him to contribute to the interiors at some point that can no longer happen.

Yeah for Dynamite, it was good but not great for me, but the team and book had a lot of potential, I think my reservations were because it seemed to have been cut short to make way for a King crossover event and never reached its natural story conclusion, but it got dropped by me at a time when I started cutting way way back on new stuff a year or two ago. I should probably try to track down those books again and give it another chance. -M
