While our participation here should never be looked at as a numbers game, it sure seemed appropriate to designate a difference between members who had contributed over 1,000 posts (Old Curmudgeons) and the growing ranks of members who were now over 5,000 posts, so there is now a new rank for 5,000 posts or more -- The Power Cosmic! In time, I'll probably create one for 10,000+ posts too, but as of now, I'm the only person at that level  |

OK but..
But there is a big difference between posts with things to say and those with thousands of posts with just one word for those multi-word games we have. I agree with your initial observation that it should not be about numbers but rather quality.

Quality of posts is a highly subjective idea. Some of those one word posts in the game threads are brilliant and clever, and some are not. Some multi-paragraph posts and even threads are thoughtful and high quality, and some are not. And even then it depends upon who you are asking.
At the end of the day, as we have no spammers here (they wouldn't last long), it's reasonable to assume that a person with a large number of posts has probably contributed something meaningful to the community.
And, if not, seriously -- these are imaginary rankings on a comic discussion internet site. The world will survive.

I think it's a great idea and I for one wanted to say thanks for Shaxper to create this new rank to acknowledge a member here reaching 5,000 posts and to me that's recognition on their part and showing every member here of the time that they spent here in Classic Comic Forum. Shaxper even added an extra yellow star to your membership profile and that's a good thing.
I support this notion and we should all embrace it.

I wasn't really moaning about it or anything, just articulating that there's no way to quantify the quality of forum posts -- not least because, as you rightly point out, such a thing is entirely subjective. Also, just to be crystal clear, my comments weren't aimed at anybody in particular, it was just a general observation about post counts in online forums in general. Post count is pretty much an irrelevancy to me, if I'm honest. |

A friendly PSA from the CCA...Power Cosmic does not do nice things to you complexion and brands you as a 90s Marvel comic...  worse, if such power becomes Unlimited, your physical anatomy starts to distort...  so beware the Power Cosmic... This has been a PSA by the CCA...protecting the world from the dangers of comics. -M |

Another board that I visit (http://www.city-data.com/forum/) has an elaborate "reputation" system that keeps track of how many 'like's your posts get, with likes from users with high reputations meaning more than likes from low-reputation users or non-members.
It seems to work well for a large general-interest board like that, but here it would be an unnecessary distraction.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go post enough to get The Power Cosmic...
