April 25, 2016 I sent in the art for UY 156: The Secret of the Hell Screen--An Inspector Ishida Mystery, part 2 (of 3). April 28, 2016 I write and draw Usagi Yojimbo, and so it is not unusual to change the story or scenes at any stage of the process. Earlier this week I posted page 9 of the story I had just turned in. That page had been redrawn. This is the original, along with the new page. There was another page that had been redone, but that was in its pencil stage when I made the decision to change it. As usual it was drawn on 11x17 inch 2-ply 500 series cold press Strathmore bristol with a 10x15 inch image area. I used a Koh-i-Noor ArtPen and Badger Black Opaque ink (old formula). The original page... ...and the new page 9.

Hmmmm. So has Jei been removed entirely, or just pushed back a page? Intriguing.
Thanks, as always, for posting these, Steve!

Both pages are really interesting. We've finally seen Enma, who Jei seems to serve. Will Jei play a role in this story? I can't wait to see!

I think Jei is some kind of a hallucination or something of the sort, brought on by whatever is making Usagi think he is IN the Hell Screen and fighting Enma..... I don't think the real Jei plays any kind of role in the story. Of course, I could be wrong.....
