I am aware of the "free" comic book day thing going on today but I did my shopping a little bit at the comic shop yesterday. Bought three of the Marvels black and white essentials fir original uncanny x men and X Factor volume 1. They were 10 bucks each so that wasn't too bad but I still need to get a couple more of the Essential X Men stuff. Even bought some single issue back issues they . We're 4 bucks each. I got 1990s Jim Lee X Men issue 23 and issue 39 along with Uncanny X Men 312

I went once but just feel like I'm in the way with the non-regulars.

I still love old comic books from the 1980s and 1990s and Im trying to catch up and stuff but special events like "Free" Comic Book Day isnt for me. Plus the people that are into Free Comic Book Day, they fill up the parking lot making it packed and crowded. Worse even when you try to walk around in the store but I didnt go to the comic book shop today anyway. I had my reason which I just explained.
The cramped parking, everyone crowding around in costumes where they just stand still and not moving out of the way when you want to look for something.

Picked up The Tick free comic and I'm really glad I did. Not wishing to look a gift horse in the mouth, but does anyone know why in spite of not having a series to promote, there's a free Tick comic seemingly every year? Is it just to maintain interest in the character when the next series comes along?

Our LCS is in the process of expanding, so they had extra room and the free comic line moved pretty well. They let everybody get 10 comics, so the wife and I got 20 between us. The Tick, Serenity, Love and Rockets. Plus, they had guests - Mike Grell and actor Doug Jones (Silver Surfer, Abe Sapien). I got a nice pair of prints (John Carter and Dejah Thoris) while Cheryl got a cool Iron Man and a signed Surfer picture and a kiss. (Hmmm.)

I went to Things From Another World in Beaverton, Oregon. TFAW is the retail division of Dark Horse but the stores have everything. They had Steve Lieber and Chris Roberson signing when I was there. It was past noon, so the initial line was gone - it stretches down the block for the first hour or so - but the store was still full of customers. They had a limit of 10 free books per customer, and a quick check showed that they had 14 books to choose from. It didn't take long for me to choose these 10:
DC - Superhero Girls DC - Suicide Squad Dark Horse - Serenity/Hellboy/Aliens Dark Horse - Legend of Korra/How to Train Your Dragon/Plants vs. Zombies Marvel - Civil War II/Avengers Boom! - Lumberjanes/Adventure Time/Mouse Guard/Labyrinth/more Archie Bongo SpongeBob March (biography of Rep. John Lewis)

I enjoyed the Dark Horse FCBD issue. The Hellboy story was good, of course, and I liked the Firefly story too. I didn't like the other Firefly comics I've read in the past, but I'm glad I read this one.
