I know. Supposedly someone had offered $ 3M before the auction. There's still time to get a good deal.

I thought that thing was slabbed by the new grading company I don't think anyone would take Action Comics #1 to a grading company other than CGC.

CBCS was founded by the former president and restoration detection expert from CGC.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Fantasy-15-CBCS-4-5-OW-W-Origin-1st-Spider-Man-Marvel-Silver-Age-Comic-/380970063179?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item58b395d54b&nma=true&si=Fmo5RiLg8JGqkFFC0YGEVszhaMU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Their wait times are currently way shorter and since the founder of CBCS left CGC there have been a few issues with restoration detection. An AF15 was recently sold on eBay slabbed by CBCS, and there was talk of this Action #1 being slabbed by them too. I don't know what happened. There's a few other big money comics soon to be in CBCS slabs.

Marvel has released 4 bargain trade paperbacks as Wal*Mart exclusives. These trades retail for $5 each, and can be found in the electronics (movies etc.) section on a standing display alongside the Spider-Man blue ray material.
The four collections are:
Spider-Man Big Time (collects the Slott/Ramos arc from ASM 648-651) Captain America Winter Soldier (collects 1-7 of Brubaker's Capt. America run) The Avengers (collects 1-6 of the most recent Bendis Avengers series with John Romita Jr. art) Guardians of the Galaxy (collects the 0.1 issue and issues 1-3 of the most recent Guardians of the Galaxy series)
Each one comes with a code to redeem free digital copies of the books as well, so it should direct traffic to the site where people can find more Marvel Comics to try (albeit in digital form).
They are a little flimsier than normal trades, but they are cheap, accessible, in a general merchandise store not a specialty shop, and displayed alongside the Marvel movies, so I think this is great marketing on Marvel's part. Good intro material to their current comics tied into the big on screen properties people are in to. I picked up 3 of these when I saw them (I already had Brubaker's Cap in trade so skipped that one). This is exactly the kind of outreach marketing to bring in new readers that Marvel should be doing. The only people who will complain about this (and I know some who already are) are comic retailers who do not get a piece ofthe action in all of this.

I'd love to see comics go more mainstream again, and diverting traffic already headed towards the new movies in that direction sounds like an excellent idea.

If I see those at my Wal-Mart I'm buying all of them. I remember a similar thing around the time the Ultimate line started.
It'd be cool if instead of a digital redemption of the material you're already buying, they gave you a free month of Unlimited so people could get an idea of what else is out there.
edit: Just to be clear, I mean I'll buy one copy of each not every copy they have.

If you go to the Marvel site and redeem the codes, there is a lot of other free material you can get (some Marvel Adventures issues in the animated style and some first appearances from the Silver Age as well. YOu also get a free digital copy of the current Marvel Previews catalog for the month and often the first chapters of some of their Marvel Infinite books for free to sample, so they do a pretty good job of offering incentives to folks. I usually redeem the codes for whatever Marvel's I get even though I am not big on reading digitally, but it's a nice back up and sometimes I pass along the print copy to others and just keep the digital after I read the print copy.

Flipping through these-The Guardians trade also includes a couple of the GotG Infinite Comics that were collected in print is the Tomorrow's Avengers One-Shot. Also on the back cover/back page is an ad for Marvel subscriptions with a coupon code for 45% off a 12 issue subscription for 4 select titles (GotG, Uncanny Avengers, Captain America and Amazing Spider-Man). All in all not a bad package and plenty of ways for someone getting it to be introduced to more Marvel Comics.

To me that makes a lot of sense. If I wasn't already into digital comics and I had a code for a comic I already owned, the code would either go in the garbage or be sold online. If I had a code for countless comics I didn't just buy, I might actually use it.

Well let's see, when I redeemed the book and then clicked on the free tab for choices on the digital site-I also got Winter Soldier #1 (The Brubaker issue), free digital versions of the GotG and Rocket Raccoon issues form FCBD, a free Silver Surfer Infinite comic and a free Ms. Marvel infinite comic. And those were just a fraction of the free books available to download once you redeem a book on the site.
Giving a free digital download of something you buy physically is common practice with movies and music, so it's not out of line for them to do it with the comics, plus it gets you to the site where they can then give you more free samples and offer digital comics and subscriptions to physical comics for sale. If you want to complain about how the free stuff they give you isn't good enough, be my guest, but it's like the saying goes-give people a free $20 dollar bill and they will complain it's not a $100.

They didn't have The Avengers, but I got the other three (last copy of each). They were up with the magazines and books here. I checked by the movies and over in toys in case these copies were just misplaced (they were mixed in with coloring books and books for kids learning to read, but didn't see any. I'm hoping they're actually selling well and not a situation where someone in back is trying to speculate.
