How do you like Art Ops ? I was waiting for it to be collected before I checked it out but I see the first TPB is out already. To be perfectly honest, I've only read the first two issues so far. I really enjoyed those, so I'm waiting for a larger chunk of pages before I dwell into it again. I'm not the über Allred fan, but in small doses, I've always enjoyed his art. I find he's really realy good here, having someone helping him out. Issue #7 had Eduardo Risso, so that's a huge extra draw. The whole concept of the book is quite zany in a way, but not more so than the old Vertigo Shade The Changing Man, which it bears some resemblance to, without being really dark. It indeed feels like an old good Vertigo book, not any of the nu Vertigo stuff or the emo/magic Vertigo stuff.

I like Allred's style in some respects, but the ironic posing of his characters often comes across as childish to me, an adolescent fear someone might think he takes anything seriously.

I must confess that probably also is my main beef with Allred! That being said, that aspect of his is quite tamed in this series, or so I feel. I don't know if this is because he has a collaborator on art (it still looks like Allred, just a tad less cartoony), but it doesn't come across as naive as it usually does.
