I'm out of town on business, took a break and checked out a comic book store. Got a great deal on mint All-Star Squadron and Young All-Stars I was missing. Anyway, the owner and I were talking, and didn't Roy Thomas have plans for Black Canary into one of the books long before her debut but with another name?
Does anyone remember this?

Not specifically. I do recall that the Tigress character from Young All-Stars was intended to eventually become the villainous Huntress (who did not debut till after the period of the All-Stars).

I'd have to dig out my contributor copies of The All-Star Companion to say for sure but I *think* Roy (my boss, if you didn't know) did contemplate it at one point but someone (might've been Len Wein, might've been somebody else) thought it would be confusing for the Canary to appear in both All-Star Squadron and Justice League simultaneously (remember, this was before Marv Wolfman decided that the JLA's Dinah was the daughter of the JSA's). As it is, he did use Liberty Belle in stories set before her series debuted in the real world.
Cei-U! I summon the sorta kinda answer!

I think he had plans for a teenage Black Canary to appear in Young All-Stars under a different name and costume. I think it's a dreadful idea and am frankly glad it never came to fruition.

I heard about that too and frankly I did not want this idea came to place and it would be a tremendous disservice to the character of Black Canary.
